Happy new week, my friends! How wonderful it is to start this week with you here. Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you’re able to relax and dream a little with this new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”.
Today, I have the pleasure to introduce you to Gbeke; a mother of two and a very talented homeowner that, along with her husband, have transformed her newly-built house into a home.
Please follow her on Instagram and take notes on all details shared by her!
“Hey Everyone! My name is Gbeke of @simplicityfordesigns. I was so excited when Luciane reach out to me giving me the opportunity to have my home featured in the Beautiful Homes of Instagram. HomeBunch is my one go-to source for home inspirations, especially at the planning stage of my home projects and gathering paint colors to sample out. Luciane, I want to thank so much for this opportunity of allowing me share my home to your audience. It is truly an honor.
Here is a little about my family and I…. my husband and I are IT professionals. He is also a US Navy veteran. We’re originally from Nigeria and fortunate to travel around the world at a younger age. We meet in Dallas, Tx and the rest is history. We have two lovely children and we live in the suburban in Dallas. I would describe us as a “Home Body” family. We enjoy staying at home, having fun and cherishing special moments as we watch our children grow. This is our motivation to make our house a home.
Our home was built 3 years ago, and the builder is “Darling Homes”. This was our first building experience and surely a learning experience as well. There are some few things I will change in our next build, but I am grateful for the home we have now. Our home is a builder-grade house with awesome upgrades but over time we will be adding more upgrades to the house.
In the rooms I share below, we have added our personal touches, some of the updates were DIY projects while others, we hired professionals. On Instagram, I share DIY projects and hope to inspire others, whom want to add a custom update to their home on a budget. I hope you love our home tour and find inspiration for your home! “
Meet the Homeowner! This is the beautiful and talented Gbeke! I love her name, by the way!
“During the design stage of our home, I did not quite know my design style but after living in our home for a while, I lean towards a mix of modern, rustic and casual.” – Gbeke.
Kitchen Hood: We get a lot of questions about our hood. It is a custom hood, design by our builder and we love it. This was an item on our wish list and we a glad we went for it. It is the focal point of our kitchen.
Island Dimension: 96 “ W x 36” H x 50” deep.

Our island countertop was an upgrade with the builder and I am so glad we decided on doing it. It is a quartz which has been awesome. It is very durable with little maintenance. This is an upgrade that I will advise everyone to do, if you are currently building a home on a limited budget. It is totally worth it.

Uppers: My husband and I decided to change some of the cabinets door fronts. We updated the two cabinets doors by the hood with glass inserts. It allows the kitchen to feel much lighter, classic and airy. We display our beautiful dishes and change it up with the season.
Lowers: We update some of our lower cabinets doors to pull-out drawers for easier accessibility to kitchen items and for the kids to be able to reach their cups, plates and bottles.

Once we moved into our home, the first thing we did was to add hardware to our kitchen cabinets. Hardware are usually affordable and you can change the style over time. We went with a modern design.
Cabinet Hardware: Pulls & Knobs.
I repainted my kitchen cabinets to reflect my design style. The previous paint color from the builder appear too creamy for the kitchen space. I wanted a bright, airy, white kitchen. The project took about 6-8 weeks to complete but it was totally worth it.

We spend a lot of time in this room. My husband and I wanted this room to be causal and most important, kid-friendly. It took us about four months to decide on the furniture for this space but the wait was worth. The sofa and the accent chairs are stain resistant and easy to clean. We love that we can have gatherings where everyone is in one big space.

Beautiful home! What brand/finish of paint did you use when repainting your island? Did you just use a paint brush and roller or what steps did you take to achieve such a professional looking finish?
