Are you enjoying the sun and the flowers outside? In my opinion, this is the best time of the year and this California-inspired Beach House by Karen Wolf of Karen Wolf Interiors truly brings that welcoming West Coast vibe to Long Beach Island.
After purchasing the perfect lot, Karen designed the 2700 sq. ft. home from the ground up for herself and her extended family. Karen grew up going to Long Beach Island with her parents and has always wanted to design a beach house. After years of looking the family decided to build one together for an extended family experience and long-term living. The house was inspired by a Cali coastal bungalow vibe with ocean blue as the dominant color theme. With 2700 SF to work with, the interior space in the house was carefully maximized to accommodate 3 generations of adults and their friends and family. Custom cabinetry was designed for hidden storage and entertaining in mind.

“We used lots of texture in the living room of our “Long Beach Retreat” project. Here we used a nubby rug to evoke the look of nautical luxury and raw wood. Then we eschewed marble on the fireplace surround for tile in a subtle Moroccan pattern (Emma Gray) from Riad Tile, which infuses the room with warmth but doesn’t overpower the rest of the space. Custom swivel chairs were upholstered in an eye-catching blue ombre pattern and we finished the look with a Shop Society Social console table to match the front of the kitchen island!” – Karen Wolf

“While blue was an essential element of our “Long Beach Retreat home’s palette, we applied it lightly…. In the second-floor living area, we used touches of blue in a console table backing the white sofa and, most notably, in a pair of swivel chairs upholstered in a striking blue-and- white ombre pattern.” – Karen Wolf

“The palette from our “Long Beach Retreat” kitchen was based on the color of the hand-scraped, wide-plank white oak flooring. We decided to do a custom island in porcelain for extra durability while using coastal blues in Sherwin Williams Windy Blue on the front of the island. Then we used a tiled Maritime Blue backsplash from Glazio. We also decided to cover the ceiling in shiplap for a coastal feel; the beams are a slightly darker take on the color of the flooring.” – Karen Wolf

“Just the right amount of millwork. We framed out the ceiling with rustic beams that coordinate with the hand-scraped, wide-plank, white oak flooring. From the ceiling, to table and floors we balanced the wood tones with white walls and chairs for an airy and welcoming space.” – Karen Wolf
