We all know that money does not buy taste and that’s very evident whenever you search for multi-million dollar mansions in Bel Air. The huge price tag is always expected, but the interiors are often shocking.
This gated mansion is located on Revuelta Way and has been on the market for quite some time. The asking price started at $39,995,000, then fell to $23,995,000, and then again to $21,995,000… and then once again to $19,995,000. Then it bounced back all the way back to $25,000,000. Could you replicate this Bel Air mansion for this price? Probably not. But you probably wouldn’t want to… or would you?
More details… Size: 25,953 Sq. Ft., Bedrooms: 15, Bathrooms: 16 Full, 1 Half. Built in 1936, 1.7 Acres, 6 Bedroom Guest House, Lush Gardens, European-Style Grotto, Lit Tennis Court, Home Theatre, Swimming Pool and even a Formal Banquet Hall.
Take a look and tell me… is this Bel Air mansion, Cool or Fool?
The Lions
Regal stonework lions guard the high wrought iron gates of the entryway which is lined with tropical greenery.
Palm Trees
Beautiful driveway, but the palm trees need some help.
Beauty
Stunning.
Fountain
The exterior of the mansion features 2-story columns, multiple second story balconies, and a style reminiscent of the grandeur of 18th century royal French palaces. Notice the enormous chandelier.
Staircase
The grand foyer.
Foyer
Incredible chandelier.
All
The foyer and dining room.
Dining Room
Details and more details…
Table
Impressed?
Chairs
Notice the shiny fabric on the chairs.
And the Gold Goes to…
I’m speechless! Not only the furniture and architecture is overwhelming together, but also, the rug is way too small for this room.
Customized Horror
Can you redesign this room in your mind? What would you change?
Piano
Any thoughts?
Connection
The foyer connects all the formal rooms.
Family Room
Too much? Perhaps. This room should be divided in a couple of sitting areas to work better and with softer colors. Forget about using all the same furniture. Be creative!
Kitchen
Granite on the floors feel a bit too busy and cold for my taste, but I love the space in this kitchen.
Mezzanine
Is that a settee (notice the feet) hanged as a swing? You must be kidding! 🙂
View
The view from upstairs.
Master Bedroom
Very spacious! Can you ever feel cozy in this place?
All
Size? More than 5,000 square feet for the entire master suite. I could fit my entire house here. 🙂
Bathroom
This bathroom has some great elements and can easily be updated.
Mirrors
Don’t transform your bathroom into a gym. Forget about walls with mirrors. They’re cold and make everything feel busy, instead of relaxing.
Closet
Fit for a princess.
Library
This library is actually stunning. I’d love to design this space. You should add a sitting area and a more elaborated desk area.
Guest Bedroom
This is a beautiful bed.
Guest Bedroom
Unfinished and tasteless.
Bathroom
More mirrors!
Bathroom
Whoa! Really??? Where do you find inspiration for such a thing? Don’t miss the TV by the tub!!! How fancy is that??? A bit suicidal too…
Arial View
Very private.
Pool
Beautiful architectural details.
Designed
The cupola-covered pavilion leads to a lighted tennis court.
Tennis Court
I love this!
At Night
Beautiful at night time.
Lights & Water
This would be a nice relaxing place to be at the end of the day.

What do you think? Cool or Fool?
Am I the only one that thinks they went too far with the interiors? This is a stunning home and has wonderful architectural details, but even those I think was overdone. Maybe we should learn when to stop and keep things a little simpler.
Elegance has nothing to do with quantity.
What are your plans for this weekend? I’ll be working, but we’ll also have some fun on Sunday. We’re planning to watch a hockey game with the kids and this will be their first time. I can’t wait to see their reaction. I think it will be great! Besides that, I’m very excited because two of my favorite shows are starting again; Dexter and Revenge. Are your favorite shows back, yet?
I hope you all have a very healthy and blessed weekend!
* “Cool or Fool” happens every Friday. I’ve started this series where I post unique and controversial concepts that I know some of you will love and others will not. The point is to tell us what you really think, regardless of anything. It’s a space where you speak your mind and analyze what you see. Have fun with it and laugh along the way!

Ewwwhhhh….way way too overdone and ornate for my taste….really bad, therefore a fool for me. All that money and no taste…..sad to see such waste!
Take away ALL the furniture and strip it down to the bare bones and start over and it has the potential to be a stunner……its the furnishings that carry it over the line.’
Have a great weekend Luciane!
Gah…it looks like Ceasars Palace in Vegas!
I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen spaces like this that are so aweful and overdone. Money, most certainly does not buy taste!
I would LOVE to get my hands on a project like that, though! Oh, the possibilities.
I can honestly say EWW! GROSS! DISGUSTING!! I mean who lives like that?? And really who would want to? I guess having money can’t buy you taste. Boggles the mind really. Actually makes my head hurt to think about the garishnses, the vulgarness, the ostentatiousness, the “oh, look at me look at me…. I have money but love to throw it away…..” A little harsh? Maybe, but oh so well deserved.
Holy Liberace Batman! Horrible! I love Dexter and can’t wait to start watching Homeland that comes on right after.
As my Mom always used to say “The only taste some people have is in their mouth”!!!!! Horrible!
The only space I would enjoy here is the tennis court. 🙂
I love the exterior. And like you, I would LOVE the chance to redo the entire interiors. They are simply awful. If you gave me this house and said it had to stay as is, I’d pass on it.
I won’t call this a foolish home but I will say that I have a definite opinion about all the gold trimmed everything. It reminds me of little old ladies homes-all the gold everywhere.
Sometimes throwing money at a place really isn’t a good idea…FOOL! There’s a reason this place hasn’t sold there’s nothing homey about it.
Enjoy your hockey game, sounds like fun!

Debra~
whoa – that’s way over the top! how could you actually “live” in a house like that??
Amazing! I can’t help but wonder whose dream this was. The realtor must be choking on her words if she is promising the owners they have a chance to recoup what it cost to build. Have to say ‘fool’.
I guess my thought is, why spend the time and energy and money to create this very big house, and then sell it? Apparently money can’t buy happiness.
I wouldn’t even want to stay there for a night….
UGH…overdone and screams “look at me”…it’s a show-off-house. I prefer understated and tasteful – not over the top garishness.
… and where is Marie Antoinette??
xoxo
Brenda I love your mother´s phrase!!! and I agree aweful, horrible, overdone, no taste at all!! Thanks for share!!
dream home and very relaxing place
Nice house inside and out
