Hello, my dear friends! Can you believe the 2022 Christmas is finally here?! And to celebrate this special day, I am really happy to be sharing this beautiful Christmas House Tour by my friend Ally from @oakavehouse. Her home feels neutral and calm, which is the perfect canvas for any type of decor.
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably will remember that I have shared some of her amazing Reels. I have loved her home for quite some time now and to have her on the blog today for a full house tour feels like a Christmas gift! Enjoy it, everyone! 🙂
Hi everyone! My name is Ally and I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to share our home with you all through Home Bunch! When a piece of property went up for sale in our favorite part of town, we knew it was our time to build our dream home. I started @oakavehouse in November 2021 to show how we are turning this brand new house into our special home. I am so excited to share with you the details on how we did this and hopefully provide some guidance along the way! Especially during the holiday season, I can’t wait to show you everything we have done to turn this house into a home.
One important piece to keep in mind about our build is that my husband and I completed this by ourselves. He was the General Contractor and I was the designer. While he has some experience from jobs at a younger age, I have never designed anything before. As for us, my husband is a business owner for Retro Fitness gyms and I work in Mental Health for the State of New Jersey. Building this home became our 2nd full-time job and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We were able to design a home that fit us and our future growing family. I hope that this feature shows you that if we are able to accomplish this, so can you!”

“Quite possibly our favorite space: the Great Room. Our last house also had a Great Room and it was something from the beginning of the design process that we knew we would do over again.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.
“Our great room stretches 16 feet wide and a dramatic 22 feet high. We added 2-story sets of windows on the front and back of the room making sure the exterior of the house matches with the rest of the 2nd story windows.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“Center of the room we opted to do a stone floor-to-ceiling fireplace. A large white room such as this could feel cold, but with the natural light, rustic stone fireplace, and built-in shelves, we really achieved the cozy and comfortable vibe we were going for.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.
Fireplace Stone: Cultured Stone, Dressed Fieldstone, Echo Ridge.
Fireplace Mantel: Custom from Etsy, Aged Oak.
“I am most excited to share how our great room looks in the thick of the holidays. Our front windows with the nook were meant to hold a grand Christmas tree. This year we brought home a 12-foot tree, but have gone as high as 15 ft! I hope you feel inspired by some of the holiday magic we’ve added to our home.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “home takes time”. Our dining room is the home’s poster child for that statement. When we decided to build this house, we sold everything (and I mean everything) in our last house except for this antique dining table and antique console table. I loved the setup and wanted to keep it, but after starting fresh, I soon realized I wanted to do the same in this room as well. If you are looking to follow along on some fun in 2023, follow along with my Instagram to see how we revamp this space. I have big, big ideas in mind 🙂 ” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“There were some sacrifices we made to save in certain aspects to allow a splurge in others. One element of this in particular, was using the pre-finished cabinet colors that the company offered as opposed to having the cabinets manually painted. Considering we wanted white, this was a fairly easy sacrifice.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“There were a few times that what I was looking at on paper as far as our plans, did not look anything like I expected once it was executed. Our powder bath was one of those. On the first floor, with 9-foot ceilings, we ended up with a pretty big single bathroom that I was not expecting. The room was framed, drywall went up, tile installed, trim finished and then painted, and I just had this gut feeling that something was missing. It was just a big white box! I hesitated to voice my concern due to delaying any extra time before we got to move in, but I had to. I had this worry, “What am I going to put on these big walls without it becoming a gallery?”, and then I figured it out, a wall treatment. We were already installing shiplap in our primary bedroom, so I thought this would be the perfect spot to incorporate it again. Although already painted, we started installing vertical shiplap and just like that, the room felt so much more complete. It went from cold and empty, to charming and inviting.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“The most recent and special design in our home was our nursery. Earlier this year, we found out we were expecting our first child, a baby girl, in January 2023. With 3 guest bedrooms, I quickly moved all of the furniture in our only guest-ready spare bedroom to an empty one, to make room for the nursery. After all, we had originally set this guest room up in the best spare of the house… sorry guests! So, I got to planning and quickly came up with a design I was so excited to execute. I wanted to do something different from the rest of the house: no more white walls, add some color, and introduce some texture. I made a mood board with all of my ideas and it honestly looked perfect on the first try vs. what I planned in my mind. With no theme in mind, I wanted the nursery to feel cozy, neutral but a touch girly, and just very organic.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“When designing our primary bedroom, I envisioned a space that I didn’t just look forward to for sleeping. I wanted this bedroom to feel inviting, open, and fresh each time we entered. I think what helps the most with this feeling are the vaulted ceilings. Originally and even on the plans, our bedroom was designed to have a flat 8-foot ceiling. Once we started watching the beams go up and noticed all of the extra space between the ceiling and the interior roof of the house, we decided to vault it instead.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.

“Our bedroom leads right into the primary bathroom where we expanded the space just a bit to include one of our favorite elements yet: a 2-person sauna. In our previous home we had a sauna, but it was not functionally suitable for the space it was in, like a bedroom. Everything in this bathroom adjusts to 2 people perfectly and we couldn’t be happier with the design outcome.” – Ally from @oakavehouse.
