A modern-styled patio is a great way to set a stylish tone for your guests as they lounge and relax in your company. From slick, clean lines to an elegant color palette, modernizing your outdoor patio is an adventure anyone can undertake.
Here are a few tips to employ when redesigning a previous patio design for that more modern feel.
Modern Patio Furniture

The quickest, most effective way to obtain a modern-style for your patio design, is to incorporate furniture that carries the same design aspects. Choose modern patio furniture sets that has clean lines and have angular shapes of the furniture’s frames. Placing rectangular and square pieces such as a love seat, chairs, a coffee table, and matching side tables can really make your patio design instantly feel modern.
Color Scheme
The key to any good modern-styled design is in the colors that are used and not used. Its designs emphasize minimalism, avoiding too many colors and seas of vibrancy. If you have a patio that is has a lot of color going on, simplifying the palette is a fast way to push the design into the right, modern direction. Think whites, blacks, grays, and any other neutrals. Replacing colored cushions to white and bulkier furniture to black can create a modern combo that is clean and streamlined.

People sometimes underestimate the power of infusing a design with modern plants and their accompanying containers. Like a good color palette and lighting, plants and their planters can be designed in such a way that they can help compliment a modern space as well as define it as so. When choosing some greenery for your patio design, stick with plants that aren’t too bright or complicated. They should be appealing to the eye yet not too eye-catching. Their planters should also be minimalistic in color for best results. Tin or terracotta containers, for instance, can really bump up the modern factor in your patio space.
Flooring
The foundation of all patios are often overlooked. However, if you have the means, updating your patio’s floors can help transition a space from whatever-you’ve-been-rocking to a nice, clean modern style. Once again, simplifying your flooring with a neutral color from concrete can bring out that classic modern feel. Also, bringing in a sophisticated pattern can work just as well in your new look.
Modernizing your patio isn’t a hard task or even that complicated. It’s all a matter of simplifying, staying away from too many colors, and being conscious of the type of accessories you use. Whether you’re starting a new patio design or renovating an older one, changing up the colors and lighting, updating the flooring, or making some green additions can modernize any patio.
