A loving home emits warmth to others. It is something you can “feel” as soon as you enter. As an interior designer, I made sure to design my home into a place that when I enter it, I leave the drama and chaos of the outside world behind. It’s my personal oasis. Everything that’s in my home brings me joy and serves a purpose whether it be entertaining, crafting, reading or just hanging out sipping a glass of coffee on the back deck. It all has to speak to me and provide me with the peace and calm the outside world cannot.
The difference between a house and a home is quite simple. A house is a structure you live in that provides basic needs and safety. But you want to spend your days in a place that can offer you more than shelter. You want to live in a home, where you feel the mental and emotional support, a place you look forward to being.
This article will give some simple yet effective tips on how you can you transform your house into a home.

Homes aren’t about how big or fancy they are and you don’t need to break the bank to have a beautiful home either! Start working towards turning your house into a sanctuary for you and you alone. Don’t focus too much on the latest trends. The first step towards this goal can be by gardening and planting some of your favorite trees, shrubs or flowers. Sometimes, our home just needs some TLC and, just like ourselves, it is far from perfect, but always a work in progress.
Your home should be a place that reflects you. This is the most important step in turning a house into a home. Homes are not supposed to be immaculate, bland canvases. They should say something about the people living there. Paint the rooms any color and put up photos and artwork that you like. I often personalize my clients’ homes by printing their own special pictures – Canvas n Decor Canvas Prints is a great place for that!
Nothing makes a house feel more like a home than when you it with the people you love. Have your family and friends over often for dinner or a movie. The more happiness and laughter that enters your house, the more it is going to feel like a home.
It’s possible to focus so much on decor, design, and picking the perfect furniture to reflect your personality and interests that it can turn your house into a place of stress. How about taking a quick breather and switching gears for a sec and not allowing that stress to enter your home? Try cherishing your home in all its different quirky stages and allow yourself to change the things you don’t love slowly. Real lives are different from your favorite HGTV show. Things don’t get transformed from overnight. It might take some time to make your home how you envision it and you should allow yourself to enjoy this entire progress instead of stressing over it. Have a goal and work towards that with calmness.
We all know that we should decorate our home. You should bring your own personality into your home through framed pictures, art, and personal items, but don’t buy things just because they’re on sale. Bring home only what you really love and. The worst thing you can do when it comes to decorating is buying a bunch of things that don’t work together. Think before you bring something home and you will be able to create a well-balanced home.
Once you have your space looking the way you want it to, invite people over and share your home with them. A big part of what makes a house a home is people and memories in it.

Nice post) I like to use flowers and photos to make a house more like home. And I’m sure that the smell of a tasty dinner in the oven and a family gathered together to share it- is the best sign that it’s the real home for them)))
Thank you so much, Olga. I couldn’t agree more about the smell of a tasty dinner with our lovely family together. Nothing feels more like home than that! 🙂
