There was a time when fluorescent tubes were the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective form of lighting. However, with the great technological advances made over recent years, LED bulbs are now the most-preferred form of lighting. That’s not to say that fluorescent tubes have ceased to be efficient. Rather,
T8 LED bulbs have a number of unique advantages, which even fluorescent lighting cannot beat. Here are 8 reasons you should replace fluorescent lights with LED ones:
T8 LED tubes produce light in varied color temperatures almost similar to that of fluorescent tubes. Only that LED lights come without the flickering problems of the older technology.
This is something you never would have thought fluorescent lights were disadvantaged. In truth, T8 LED lights are more up to 30 percent more than their fluorescent counterparts. With that, you should be able to save a lot of money on energy costs.
One thing you couldn’t do with fluorescent liqhts is to dim them. Where that’s possible, it is very expensive and not as effective. With the brand new LED technology, it is possible to dim more effectively and get the amount of light you need.
Of course it is possible to control fluorescent lights by installing motion sensors. However, this doesn’t work very well and may result in the tubes burning out quicker. You wouldn’t experience such problems with LED lights. If anything, they lifespan isn’t affected by switching on and off by the control system.
Even though fluorescent lights are energy efficient, they are far from being environmental friendly. They contain mercury, which could lead to serious pollution problems. You cannot say that about LED tubes which are mercury-free. As such, they don’t attract a recycling.
On average, a fluorescent tube lasts for up to 30,000 hours. Compare that with T8 LED tubes which goes for up to 50,000 hours and you have a clear winner. As technology has improved, newer versions of LED tubes have been released to the market. They last for up to 84,000 hours or nine and a half years. Just what can beat that?
The best thing about LED lights is that they provide operational directional lighting. Thus, it is possible to direct light where you need it the most. Not so for fluorescent lights whose light is multi-directional. This allows for a lot of light to be lost, thus, reducing the overall efficiency of the tube.
When a fluorescent tube falls down accidentally, you can only expect to pick broken pieces. The T8 LED lights are made coated with a shatterproof material. Thus, you can be sure that your tube will still be intact if it was to accidentally fall down.
It is clear that T8 LED tubes stand out from their fluorescent counterparts in more than one way. If you can afford the high upfront cost, don’t hesitate to buy some for your home or modern farmhouse. If anything, the tubes will last longer are provide a higher return on investment.
