“Hi Homebunchers, I am so thrilled to be able to share my recently completed home on this platform and thankful to Luciane for offering this opportunity! My name is Lauren Smyth and I am the Interior Designer for Alturas Homes in Boise, Idaho. I design over 100 homes a year for Alturas Homes and last year I got the chance to throw my own into the mix. You may be thinking that it must have been a smooth process designing a home for yourself as an Interior Designer but it was one of the single most challenging projects I’ve ever had the pleasure of taking on. Ultimately, what ended up informing all my decisions on the home was my roots in Boise. It’s a town that offers everything outdoors in a charming setting nestled in high desert foothills with mountains beyond the horizon. This vibe of rugged meets welcoming was the undertone for my home. I hope you can gain some inspiration from my space and take a little bit of this mountain modern style into your own home!”

“In the entry I ended up utilizing a reclaimed wood plank and custom metal work to create a floating entry table. The fabricator working on the reclaimed wood beams throughout the home had some leftover pieces that I wanted to use so we fit one to the wall and created this. The fabricators doing the metal work on the fireplace were able to stabilize it with a custom fit piece underneath which made it feel finished off and tied my two favorite elements of the home together.” – Lauren Smyth

“Off the entry and in the living room, I wanted a statement piece. Our metal fabricators just received a shipment of metal that was “bad” because it arrived rusted with some not ideal marking but I loved it the second I saw it. They blackened it and fit it with bolts to push the industrial look and I’m obsessed with the way it turned out.”

“I really dislike the look of appliances everywhere but I love this range. They tell you in design school that you should learn the rules so you can break them and I definitely kicked the “working triangle” to the curb. My goal was to get the refrigerator and freezer out of general view so I tucked them in the pantry and I love that it opened up so much of the wall space for open shelving, tile and lighting, it still has a great workflow too!”
“My old home was a mid-century modern on the Boise bench so I wanted to sprinkle a little of that style in this kitchen. I went for a straight stacked horizontal mosaic tile on the backsplash and a waterfall edge to go a touch more mod.”

“The dining room is the keeper of the reclaimed beams and that’s what I wanted to be the focal point of that space. I kept the furniture all black to balance out the weight of the fireplace next to it and tie in the kitchen area since the rooms are all in the same line of sight.”

“This space got framed 7″ short so we had to make some last minute adjustments in order to meet code with the toilet spacing. Let me tell you, whenever these situations happen, the outcome is always better than the original plan. I realized we still had some leftover reclaimed wood and our fabricator made me the sweetest little space for a smaller sink to sit and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!”

“I wanted the bonus room to feel super comfy but also up for anything. There’s these great sliders that go onto the patio so I knew a sectional that could be arranged several different ways was a must. This sofa from Arhaus is just that and it’s deep which makes it feel extra lounge-y. I couldn’t help myself and put a big wall of wainscot in to break up all the white and also keep the home feeling balanced.”

“The bedroom for me is all about feeling light so I turned down the notch on the black in there and just did it on the beams. Casual fabrics paired with the metal nightstands felt like a good juxtaposition for this space. I don’t think bedrooms should be too overdone, I think it’s best if they always look simple and clean.”
