If you read Cool or Fool for a long time you know I post only things that will make you stop and look and look again! When I saw this dining room designed by Michael Trapp and I had to stop and stare at it. I had to look at every detail the pictures showed. It simply got my full attention.
The dining room of designer Michael Trapp is totally eccentric and I love many elements he used here, including the table and chairs. The windows are so charming and everything feel so original. I found myself enchanted while looking at this room because it’s something I haven’t seen yet. The designer gets so many points for being true to his vision, to his taste. But I couldn’t help asking myself if this is a little too much. Could I ever live in a house like this? Taste is always something personal and I respect everyone’s work and vision. I actually feel grateful to see something so unique like this dining room because it can be very inspiring, but remember, being inspired by something is completely different than copying it. You can love some items you like here, like, the texture, the rustic elements and apply it in small doses in your own home.
But just by looking at it, what’s the first thought that comes to your mind? Cool or Fool?

I can’t believe it’s Friday already! Did you guys have a good week? Mine had some ups and downs, but I’m finishing my week choosing to feel happy. Sometimes I get emails of readers saying they wish they were as positive as I am. To be completely honest, unfortunately I’m not always positive, although, I try to be. I just have so much faith… Let me share something with you. My grandmother _who is a mother to me, since she basically raised me _ is 85 years old and she was diagnosed with alzheimer. She’s doing okay right now, but everything is changing and even though it’s only the beginning, we’re having a hard time to understand the changes. But she always tells me of how important it is for us to have faith, to be positive and to share all of it with others. I’m always saying what comes from my heart and I had to share this with you. The truth is, we had a difficult week with my grandma not feeling well, but we continue to have faith and knowing that we are not alone and that’s why I say I’m ending this week feeling happy and grateful, because I know that everything is being taken care of . If anything, this is making me appreciate every minute of life in a very real way, and understand that we’re here to live the best way we can and to show how much appreciation we have for the ones we love.
We need to forget to be too careful with the imperfections of life. We really should simply accept that having a perfect life is unnecessary and trying to find wisdom in the small gestures is where happiness belong.
I hope you count your blessings this weekend and recognize new ones.

This dining room is actually pretty interesting, reminds me of bieng in an enchanted garden or soemthing, while I wouldn’t want it for myself I do think its really pretty and well done and gets an A+ for being so unique!

I am sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I think they are making progress in new treatments for Alzheimers, so hopefully they can slow it down. I think there was an article in our local paper lately about a medication for a different condition (sorry can’t remember which one) that is helping Alzheimer patients. I would say the dining room is fool. Way too cluttered and dust collector for me. Makes me think spiders may be living in all the stuff laying around. Love the windows though.

I’m sorry for your grandmother. My mother died 4 weeks ago and is an irreparable loss, but I’ll take the best of her, your company throughout the years of my life, I hope that You will do the same with your grandma. Kiss her for me.

I love the chandelier and the little table but it is a little too rustic for my hubby. I think it’s cool but he
would never live with anything that looks like creepy crawleys would visit.
I love this dining room! I couldn’t live in it with all of those dried flowers – I would most definitely sneeze too. However, I like having those tall plants right around that open window. I’d love to try that myself. It blurs the line between outside and inside. Perhaps I would combine it with that earthy colored wall paint too.
Oh, and my grandmother has Alzheimer’s too. But she is doing pretty well with her medicine! It can be difficult but just keep your chin up.
It’s not for me….you asked r first impressions, and mine is that it looks like a set for Akice in Wonderand. My six year old daughter would love it 🙂
I’m so sorry about your grandmother. My 68 year old mother was diagnosed with it last month, too. It is devastating, and you will be in my thought and prayers!

I’ve always loved Michael Trapp’s look. He was one of the first to popularize antique European garden accents, and he really influenced the trend towards using classical European architectural fragments with worn patina outside and in. His designs are always very organic and include plants and natural elements. Personally, I couldn’t live with quite that much messiness – I’d want to constantly sweep up the falling plant litter – but I love the 500 year-old villa look and the rusticity.
I’m sorry about your grandmother. My father died of Alzheimer’s four years ago. There were definitely rough patches and heartbreaking times, but he was quite serene and happy when he died at the age of 87.

I like the rustic feel to the room, wish he had a little larger table and some comfortable chairs to dine on. Overall, it’s interesting and you are right, it got me to study the details.

Give your grandma lots of support and understanding – she’s terrified. My father died of Alzheimer’s – it is a devastating disease and affects everyone around. Be sure you have a support group of family or friends, and always be there for Grandma even when she won’t recognize you. Good luck. Love your blog!
I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My mother had the disease and I wish you strength and much patience as her disease progresses. Read as much as you can about it so you will understand the changes and know how to handle them.
As for Michael Trapp’s room, I love all his work, especially his gardens, and I love this room as well. The only reservation is that is meant, in my opinion, to be photographed — more of an art installation than a dining room. For those of you who live close enough to West Cornwall, Connecticut, I highly recommend you visit his antique shop and garden. You will not be disappointed.
