Classic Cottages, a high-end custom home builder in Arlington, VA, wanted to build a home that transported one to the coast. Inspired by some of the local Chesapeake Bay’s coastal homes, Classic Cottages’ architects and designers set out to do just that. Who doesn’t want to feel like they are on vacation all the time?
Considering the minimal lot width (only 50 feet wide) and zoning restrictions, the max width this lot could accommodate was a 32’ wide home. Luckily, the lot’s depth (200 ft) allowed for some flexibility. The builder didn’t want future homebuyers to feel like they were just living in a long narrow hallway or getting hung up on the width of the home, so they decided to pull the home upward with 10’ loft ceilings on the main level, 18’ ceilings in the luxury primary bathroom, and a jaw dropping two-story screened porch. The shift in one’s gaze from left to right suddenly shifts vertically, and what could have felt like a small, constrained home, suddenly feels like open skies. With ocean blue, oyster white, sandy beige and driftwood gray tones, plus soaring 10’ -18’ ceilings, smooth marble accents, expansive windows and lofty open concept living, this tranquil home exudes the very best of its seaside inspiration.
