Friday! Ooohooo! Are you off from work yet? I hope you can have some quiet time during this weekend, maybe take a bubble bath… and talking about bubble baths, I couldn’t pass this one up without showing it to you. This is an outstanding house in Westport, Connecticut and it’s on the market for $6.5 mil. I was taking a look and even thought about making a post, that was until I clicked on the master bathroom’s picture and saw the tub!
I must say I felt a bit confused about it. The free stand tub wasn’t free at all. Poor thing, right? They stuck it by the window and made sure to even add tiles around it. And I keep asking myself “why?” Why would you buy a free stand tub and make it look just like a “normal” tub? I thought at first it could be that the tub was on sale, but again, if you have a $6.5 mil house, I’m sure you can afford any kind of tub.
Well, take a look and tell me if you think what they did is it “Cool or Fool”.
What do you think of this? Is it Cool or Fool to use a “free stand” tub like this or they should’ve planned it better with another tub? I believe they wanted to have storage on one side of the tub, but if that’s the case, why not add a charming (and small) side table?

I really hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. Have fun, people! Really! Enjoy your life, take a minute to simply do something you want to do, not have to do. We so often forget what gives us pleasure and feeling pleasure is so important. I understand we have so many things we need to take care of, but sometimes we truly need to take a mental break from our errands. Use of this weekend to do that, even if it’s only a few hours, but remember that when re-energize our mind and spirit, we can offer more to everything that surround us.

Love the whole style of the bathroom, but that bath… how ridiculous does it look! Just shows that money does not buy style 😉
This bathroom has such a great feeling about it… but that tub has just been sorely wasted with the install. I actually think it’s too modern in a wanna-be vintage look kind of way for this space anyway – wouldn’t a clawfoot tub look so much better?

On the one hand it’s kind of a neat focal point/conversation peice…. on the other hand… that unsual bathtub set-up is a complete distraction from an otherwise lovely bathroom!
I think they wanted the look and wanted it stable. I don’t think it’s that bad. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was fool and if I was buying the home it wouldn’t be a
deal breaker.
Whats the point is what I would want to know…not a fan. So a big fool for me. A real shame the bathroom is pretty and a free standing tub would have looked fabulous.

I think it’s COOL!!!!!!!!!! If someone could afford either building or buying this house, I think it’s cool that they did exactly what THEY wanted for a tub in the bathroom. To each his own, I always say! Good for them.

Back again for “Cool or Fool.” As a consummate bather, my guess is that this was a tub that the owners loved to bathe in. Perhaps, it comes only as a stand alone. I am a fan of the Kohler steeping tub–circa 1989. This bathtub really doesn’t bother me. Drop by and see my friend’s fabulous Hollywood Regency house in Beverly Hills. It was a treat for me. I will say “cool.”

Fool. But, I bet you this is somebody who has had a free standing tub before, and wanted a “shelf” to put things on. Too bad they didn’t hit an antique store and find a cute little table to go next to it.

fool…so much wasted space in that bathroom with everything all lined up against one wall, military style..I checked out all the pictures…the house itself is an absolute knock out..but I was extremely disappointed in the decor of the house… some very lovely items but not much creativity happening..they sure were afraid to mix colors (yawn)
Just plain foolish, that tub is a piece of high quality jewlery, shouldn’t mess with it! I’ve been so busy but never miss a post my friend, sorry I haven’t said hello for awhile.

Definitely FOOL! I’m with you Luciane why in the world would anyone block in a free standing tub? It looks rather silly only half blocked in too. Good eye for catching that!

I would say fool! I would love to have a free standing tub and would never try to make it look built in. Wonder whose decision that was. A nice table beside the tub would have been much nicer.
Maybe they were concerned about having to clean behind a free-standing? But, the hired help can manage that easily. It totally ruins the bathroom aesthetic! The bathroom design and placement of fixtures leaves a lot to be desired, but modifyable. Even so, I’d say “Fool” in this instance.

I am a bath designer and I have never seen a tub installed like this one. An oval drop-in tub
is what I would have done.
I like what they did with the tub…..a bit of space on the window side for decor, plant, bath items etc, but by not tiling the inside edge it allows for much easier access getting in and out. Many folks do not use the spa tubs they say they want because it is too difficult with wide surrounds to safely get in or out.
