Hello everyone! I hope you’re enjoying this week of guest posts. I’m loving having some of my dearest friends here with us.
I feel so lucky for having Michele from “Hello Lovely” with us today. I used to visit Michele’s blog even before starting mine, so you can imagine how much I admire and adore this woman. Michele is truly special and you can feel her great energy through her words and her work.
Please, take a look at her gorgeous blog, arts and Etsy store (one of my favorites!).
I’m Michele of Hello Lovely.
It’s pure pleasure to fill in for Luciane today, and I
am certain she’ll be back oozing with inspiration.
Today I’m sharing tips for styling a room’s
decor with less stress.
Translation:
only minimal need for anti-anxiety
meds, a second mortgage, and desperate
pleas to Candace Olsen for a free makeover.
(Although I am a professional writer
and can hook you up with a killer email.)
Are we already acquainted?
Maybe I need to state here I’m kidding.
To illustrate the tips below, I have highlighted
work of a few creative friends in blogland.
1.
Analyze the sort of mood you wish to create.
I love how Marianne Simon establishes a
serenely elegant vibe in her spaces.
There’s nothing shouting or assaulting your senses.
2.
Bear in mind the power of subtraction.
In my own home, I am always shocked to find
that when I’m unhappy with a certain room,
the best place to start is subtracting objects.
I’m not suggesting we all morph into minimalists.
Just reminding that “stuff” has energy, and
too much or too little can make us edgy.
3.
Be brutal as you decide what makes the cut
in the room and what gets the boot.
I guess the black cat stays.
Monika of Splendid Willow has such a keen eye
for lovely pieces for home and wardrobe.
Her shop is a great place to find stylish
pieces to incorporate into your nest.
4.
Snap photos of vignettes with which
you are experimenting, then view them
on the computer screen.
(You’ll notice things to tweak
you may have missed.)
Tina of The Enchanted Home is always snapping
away for her popular blog as she demonstrates
how a beautiful home can come together.
The blue and white porcelain she loves
as seen above comes from her lovely shop.
Blog, or no blog, it really helps to get
a different perspective with the camera.
5.
Do not evaluate your styled space through the lens of
other people who won’t be living in the space.
For example, there are those who cannot
tolerate asymmetry, yet you may be
totally feelin’ it.
I adore how Kara Rosenlund styles her home
with whimsy, individuality, and freedom.
Do any of these tips strike a chord with you?
Thanks so much for reading me,
and I would love to have you stop
by Hello Lovely to add to the beauty.

What a great post and I am soo honored to have been included in this stylish round up! Thank you Michele and Luciane, your tips and guidelines for styling a room are right on the money……bottom line its important to do what feels right to YOU not what the magazines or designers are telling you to do and of course it’s a lot of experimentation..but thats the fun part:)
This is such a great post! It’s definitely one to keep in the back pocket, the purse pocket, the whatever pocket… just keep it handy and refer to it often! Thanks for sharing such awesome tips and advice, Michele!
thanks, guys.
a pleasure to share the talents of these creative women with great style.

You picked some very talented ladies Michele! I agree that editing can really work wonders in a room…such beautiful examples here – nicely done!
I especially love the
observation about items
and energy and how
important it is to edit!
I feel the same way
about fashion. Sometimes
too much is well, TOO
much.
Thanks for this great post.
