The season change from summer to autumn is the perfect last chance to sort out your garden before the winter arrives. You may want to move some furniture, add some planters or place some flowers in your garden or even start building a new vegetable garden for the next spring .
Vegetable Garden
September is known as a busy month in the garden as the summer blooms will be dying off and it is the perfect time to start planting pretty winter flowers such as bluebells, crocuses, snowdrops and more. You must make sure to rake through your flower beds to make sure it is still thoroughly dug out and fertilized. You might want to add some planters into your garden which you can find from local timber merchants such as Arnold Laver as this gives a more finished look and draws people’s attention to your flowers. If you have limited space, you can also use your planters to create a practical vegetable garden.
Fruit Trees
If you have any fruit trees in your garden make sure to pick your produce once it is ripe. You should also make sure to bring any indoor plants back inside after enjoying the summer sun, they certainly won’t want to still be outdoors once the cold frost hits!
Patio Furniture Care
Another aspect of your garden to consider is what to do with the furniture you have. Some pieces can go rusty when left outdoors for a long period of time when the weather is wet and damp, so you may want to fold them away and place in the shed or garage whilst they won’t be in use. If you do not have enough space in your shed or garage then you should find a thick plastic sheet which when tightly wrapped around your furnishings should protect them from the wintry weather too.
Garden Shed
You may also want to check over things like your shed and fences to ensure that all of the wood is in good condition. It is a good idea to treat or fix any parts that look weak so they do not break during the winter. You could also finish them off with a fresh hand of paint so they don’t become washed out during the winter. These small changes now will ensure that you don’t have to spend lots of time when it becomes cold in the garden yet it will still look managed.
