Traditional Home with Transitional Interiors
View into library/den from grand entry foyer. The floors of this home were stained with a custom blend of walnut and dark oak stain to let the grain of the white oak shine through. The walls have all been paneled and painted a crisp white to set off the stark gray used on the upper part of the walls, above the paneling.
An oversized chandelier crown the foyer, with edison filament bulbs, to keep a formal room feeling more casual. A silk light grey rug was used in the library/study to mirror the one in the dining room, which looks directly onto the foyer as well.

Dining Room
The walls of this formal dining room have all been paneled and painted a crisp white to set off the stark gray used on the upper part of the walls, above the paneling.
A silk light grey rug sits under a 12′ wide custom dining table. Reclaimed wood planks from Canada and an industrial steel base harden the soft lines of the room and provide a bit of whimsy.
Dining benches sit on one side of the table, and four leather and nail head studded chairs flank the other side. The table comfortably sits a party of 12.

How to Prepare Your Table for Dinners
Here, the designer, Susana Simonpietri, shares her tips on how to prepare a dining table for dinners: “I believe that the simpler a table setting, the better. Always stick to white plates and opt to not use place matts. I find that place matts divide a dining group. Instead opt for a large runner linking the dining party, or if your table is as beautiful as the one in the image above, then no runner is necessary. White plates, well pressed linen napkins, and lots of candles. When selecting candles use varying heights to keep the eye interested and NEVER use scented candles. If using flowers, try finding unusual objects to place them in. Here we used extremely large Ball jars which are used as pitchers, but when set at the ends of the table they work well for a huge bunch of white Annabelle hydrangeas. Also remember height when picking flowers. Large or tall vases will most likely need to be moved at dinner time to facilitate conversation, so make sure to provide many small sprinkles of color around the table.”
Living Room
Upper walls are painted in Benjamin Moore Gray 2121-10.
Fabric on gray pillow (right) is the “Summer Palace Fret by Schumacher”.
Living Room Decor
This large living room setting sits above a custom grey/lavender silk and wool blend rug. Walls were paneled to a height and then a dark grey was carried above the paneling height. Pocket doors were put in to open the formal living room into the kitchen area, thus providing a sense of informality to this room. Symmetry was used to arrange flanking chairs and sofa. All upholstery goods were covered in linen over shades of creams and grays. Chartreuse and soft lavender were used as accent colors. A whitewashed sculptural console is placed behind the larger sofa in the space and invites to explore the room, past the entry foyer.

It’s very quiet around here… the kids are at school and my 2 y/o is building some puzzles by my side. This silence will be gone as soon the kids come back from school! 🙂
Talking about that, their school is almost ending and I still don’t have many plans for summer. We’ll take a break from activities and let them enjoy this break without too much to do. That can be good or bad… LOL I know they need to relax, but they can get bored very fast… I will be busy trying to come up with fun things to do around the house and town, and we’ll definitely spend plenty of time on the beach. It’s fun and it’s free… can’t go wrong with that, right? 🙂
Enjoy your day, my friends. I will back tomorrow with a new “Interior Design Ideas”!
