This seaside shingle style cottage is perched on a rocky shore with direct views overlooking the Atlantic. Built in 1880’s, this cottage went through a major renovation. The project scope included the renovation of an existing family cottage as well as the addition of several new spaces. A new kitchen, ocean room, and master suite have more than doubled the original footprint, but meld seamlessly with the old structure, as well as the natural contours of the lot.
Designed by Carpenter & MacNeille Architects & Builders, this cottage is pure inspiration for those who love the classic look of shingle style architecture.
Classic Shingle Style Cottage
You start falling in love with this classic shingled cottage the moment you see the beautiful facade, but the interiors certainly don’t disappoint! With a Dutch door and beautiful decor, this entryway go beyond your expectations.
The Dutch door was custom made by Stephen Terhune Woodworking.
The entry floor is made of reclaimed pine.
Paint Color
Wall Paint Color is “Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC-172”.
The trim is “Benjamin Moore Fog Mist OC-31” in Semi Gloss.
These colors work beautifully together. It’s a really good option for a main floor paint color palette.
Blue & White Decor
A classic touch is added with blue & white decorative pieces, paneling and built-in consoles.
The rug is from Landry & Arcari.
Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color
Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color is “Benjamin Moore Fog Mist OC-31”.
A gorgeous custom made patinated zinc hood is this kitchen’s focal point. A large double-sided island creates a division between the prep area and dining area.
Backsplash & Countertop Materials
The backsplash is Silver Travertine and the countertops are 4350 Lagos Blue Caesarstone.
The wine refrigerator here is the Sub Zero Model 427G.
Powder Room
This is a small, but truly gorgeously designed powder room.
Wallpaper is the “Rope” (White & Beige) by Cole & Son for Lee Jofa.
Paint on beadboard paneling is “Benjamin Moore Fog Mist OC-31” in Semi Gloss.
Staircase
Coastal and classic, this staircase has a stunning custom bannister and railing.
Coastal-inspired lighting is by Visual Lighting.
Guest Bedroom
I adore this simple guest bedroom. It’s casual and very welcoming.
Barn door hardware is from barndoorhardware.com.
Coastal Dreams
This place is perfect for little naps (if you don’t have small kids, that is… I don’t remember the last time I took a nap! 🙂 ) or just relax and read a good book.
I am loving the look of these linen pillows.
The light fixture is from Hudson Valley Lighting.
Master Bathroom
The master bathroom is part of the new addition to the cottage. It feels spacious and it has a timeless design.
The counter is a polished quartzite called “Luca de Luna” and the floor tiles are “Smoke porcelain”.

Double Vanity
Custom cabinetry beneath sinks and on the left, allows plenty of storage for the homeowners.
Walk-in Closet
This is my kind of walk-in closet, with plenty of built-in storage. Everything is hidden, organized and away from dust.
The rug is from Landry & Arcari.
Atlantic
During this summer, take at least one day to watch a sunset on the beach… and don’t forget to make a wish!

Isn’t this cottage perfect? I find the interiors to be very welcoming and full of character. It’s definitely not a coastal cookie-cutter home!
Today, we’ll be celebrating Canada Day by watching the fireworks at the beach. We do this every year and the kids love it. I can wait for it and I certainly am in need of some beauty in my life.
