You have seen many inspiring kitchen designs everywhere but nothing seems to be the right inspiration for your small space and you wonder if you can have the kitchen of your dreams within your limited square footage. Well, the answer is yes! You can always have a beautiful and, more importantly, useful kitchen regardless of how small your space is. What you need is the right inspiration and the right tips on how to design a small kitchen.
Take this white kitchen for example. The shape of this room is not the easiest one to work with, but by being creative and removing the upper cabinets, designer Lisa Gabrielson from Lisa Gabrielson Design, brought light and an airy feel to the space, taking away any claustrophobic feeling that many small kitchens have. The designer also added a charming barn door to a pantry located in the eating nook to bring personality to the space without compromising on storage space.

Small White Kitchen Design
The focal wall in this kitchen features open shelving, subway tile, and stainless appliances.
The white subway tiles are standard 3×6 subway tile from Lowes. They’re very affordable and pretty! The color is not a stark white, which gives it some warmth without being too creamy. The grout color is “oyster”.
The shelves are custom, but the brackets are from Home Depot, painted to match the shelves.
The range is by “Kitchen Aid”.
The hood is a “Cavaliere”.
Farmhouse Sink
I love the idea of flanking the farmhouse sink with a pair of table lamps. It brings some warmth and color to this kitchen.
The lamps are vintage mid-century painted blue with “Pottery Barn” shades.
The fabric used on the custom shades are “City Squares by Thom Filicia”.
Also, notice the absence of backsplash. This adds a more natural feel to the space.
Kitchen hardware is from “Restoration Hardware”, polished nickel. Lugarno collection.
Breakfast Room
This breakfast room is full of creative ideas! It’s casual and perfect for family living.
The bench is custom, but you can find a very similar one at “Ballard Designs”. The fabric is by Sunbrella.
The designer used 1×6 tongue and groove planks on the reverse on the ceiling to achieve this rustic feel.
The barn door are custom built locally. The paint is applied in layers. The technique the designer uses is very organic. Basically, light paint, then dark paints are applied, sanded in spots, and waxed to seal. The dark wax is added sparingly in areas to give it patina.
Barn Door Paint Color: It is a mix of Annie Sloan chalk paint in white, Paris grey, and duck egg with dark and clear waxes on top.
The light fixture was custom made by the designer.
Bench Fabric
The gorgeous hand-painted barn doors conceal the pantry.
White Kitchen Paint Color
Cabinet Paint Color: “Benjamin Moore Mascarpone AF-20”.
This urban farmhouse kitchen went from dated gold and black to polished white with hints of grey, blue and silver. Special custom touches render this space very special, yet totally family-friendly. How not to love it, right?
The countertop in this kitchen is honed “thunder white granite” with 1/4″ bevel edge detail.

Wow, what an amazing kitchen! I love how bright it is, though I’m not sure how I feel about the table lamps by the sink–never seen that before. The little breakfast nook is absolutely adorable. Definitely my favorite part!
