Have you ever dreamed of having a beach cottage where you could go every holiday and spend great moments with the most important people in your life? Imagine building a place where you can choose all the décor, all the details and see it all come to life.
When it was time to decorate, the homeowners of this traditional Nantucket cottage knew they should call Jeannie Balsam LLC. to design their place.
With the designer’s talent, the cottage now features traditional coastal interiors with plenty of great ideas. Take a look at the fabric choices here. They’re full of color and make this home to feel happy, colorful and approachable. And if you’re a fan of Manual Canovas fabrics, this post will be heavenly for you!
Another thing you can’t help but fall in love with is the classic white kitchen with tall cabinets and beautiful lighting. You will want to pin this one!
This traditional coastal cottage has plenty to see and dream about! Are you ready?
Traditional Nantucket Cottage with Coastal Interiors
With a traditional approach, this foyer boasts beautiful flooring and a stunning staircase. I am in love with the staircase newel and the floor stain.
Wall finishing is Eggshell base color with pale yellow glazed stripes.
Staircase runner is wool.
Family Room
The family room is cozy and it opens to the formal living room.
Fireplace
Wouldn’t it be great to read a good book here by the fire in a chilly day?
Notice the bookcase on the right.
Fabric
Don’t be afraid to incorporate color with fabric. If you like to play safe, you can use neutral colors on your upholstered pieces and add color with pillows.
The distressed wood coffee table ties the room together and tones down the colorful fabrics.
Formal Living Room
Anyone would want to spend more time in a living room with a view like that!
Ottomans are by Charles Pollack.
Club chairs are from Lee Jofa.
Let’s Go Sailing
Coastal interiors are the best! You look at this space and it seems to invite you to sit down and relax.
Bar
I am loving this discreet bar! The countertop is antiqued walnut wood with a marine lacquer boat finish!
The bar also features painted beadboard ceiling accented with glass sphere pendant. The glass-front upper cabinets and inset lower cabinets are paired with polished black granite countertops and white paneled backsplash covered in decorative plates.
Dining Room
Traditional furniture plays beautifully against coastal decorative elements such as the shell chandelier in this dining room.
Mural
A coastal-themed mural adds interest to this space.
White Kitchen
Can we ever get tired of classically designed white kitchens? I surely can’t! This traditional kitchen features a pair of “Hudson Valley Lighting Haverhill Pendants” over an expansive kitchen island accented with tons of storage space and topped with white marble countertop. An apron sink sits across from paneled range hood with built-in spice shelves.
Breakfast Nook
Beautiful breakfast nook with custom banquettes. The propellers came from an antique shop in Nantucket.
Fabrics on pillows are by Manual Canovas.
Table is Charles Pollack – it is a square table that then opens to a round.
Stools are from Sterling Collection.
Upper Family Room
This second floor family room is a great place to watch some tv or read a book. Notice the built-in bookcase.
Kids Bedroom
Now, this is a coastal bedroom! I love the custom beds (they could fit four in this space!) and the shiplap walls.
The floors are hand painted stripes on white wood painted planks.
Guest Bedroom
Grasscloth wallpaper cover the walls while coastal decor bring some interest to this guest bedroom.
Plaid Wall
Plaid walls play beautifully with the bedding and a linen-covered headboard in this bedroom.
Master Bedroom
More coastal fabrics are found in the master bedroom! I love the flooring and the neutral grasscloth wallpaper.
Ocean View
Imagine yourself here, feeling the warm ocean’s breeze…
Bathroom
This bathroom feels restful and inviting. The floors are white and there is a design painted over with a glazed technique. Amazing!
Also, notice the arched beadboard ceiling.

Don’t you feel more relaxed after seeing this charming cottage? It’s no secret that I love coastal homes and I am happy to be hired by a wonderful client to work on a her cottage. I will be finalizing some projects for a special client and then, I will start working on this new project. This will be a wonderful home and I hope I can share with you guys after it is built. We will dream big with this one! My client and I have a very similar taste. 🙂
In fact, I am getting many emails from readers that are interested on my online interior design services. I am completely booked right now, but I might be able to schedule some projects for the end of May/June.
Other than working a lot, I am taking care of myself. Do you guys remember that I mentioned last week that I was going to see a homeopathic practitioner? I am so glad I did. I have being having stomach pains for almost a year now and it seems to be getting much better with almost a week of treatment. I feel relived to be honest with you. I was getting worried and this gives me some peace of mind.
How about you guys? Are you feeling good today? I surely hope you do!
Take care of yourselves, my friends and we’ll talk again tomorrow!
Bi hugs to all!

First, I love this house. I had pains in my stomach and then gave up breads. Not only did the pain stop but I lost a couple of pounds. Got to love that! Glad your feeling better.
Hello Joanne,
Thank you so much for your comment. I just gave up on coffee… please, don’t tell me I have to give up on bread!! LOL In fact, I am trying to be more careful with what I eat and it is helping.
I hope you continue to feel good! 🙂
Luciane
I, too, love the use of color and fabrics in this home! This is on my list of favorites. I could look at this all day. Hope you feel better. Unresolved issues that linger are so hard to deal with.
