When thinking of visiting Brazil people usually think of going to Rio de Janeiro, to Copacabana and to the beach. Little do they know that Brazil is a country of vast beauty yet to be discovered. This is one place worth a visit on your trip to Brazil. This beautiful Brazilian farm, “Fazenda Vargem Grande”, was built in 1837 and was the residence of one of the many ‘Barons of Coffee’. After many years of impeccable restoration it is now a bed & breakfast.
What made me post this was the fact that I’m from a place not too far from it and I was raised going to my grandfather’s farm which reminds me so much of this place. It wasn’t as old but it was just as charming. I must say that seeing the beautiful mountains, gardens and architecture here made me feel closer to home, to whom I really am. It’s hard to explain but if you see something that relates to your own history, to your childhood, you feel even more attached to it. This place feels really special to me and I really hope you enjoy it as much did.
The Old Farm
This place was originally a coffee farm. Coffee was one of the most expensive items you could buy and the place was named “black gold” because of that.
Brazilian Forests
This farm is located on the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlantica). It has some of the most beautiful vegetation I’ve ever seen in my whole life. There’s even an unique smell, the freshest air I’ve breathed.
Like a Paint
“Vargem Grande” receives guests around the world. They simply want you to experience being in a place that is simply magical and full of history and charm.
A Tree
Natural beauty.
Nothing Like It
In one of the lounges, the Florence Knoll sofa 1954 Collection, and vintage inspired original Tripolina J. Beverly Fenby, 1855. The lamps are of Clement Fagundes Gomes, the paintings’ Burle Marx.
Antiques
This house is furnished with gorgeous antiques. Notice the amazing floors.
Colorful
Even if you don’t like farm houses, you need to analyze the colors and textures used in this house. You can learn what the Brazilians know so well, which is vibrant color.
Love
You’ll be inspired wherever you go.
Simplicity
You don’t go to this place to find a five- star hotel treatment. You go to this place to feel in contact with nature, with a simpler time and a more humanized sense of life.
Kitchen
This is a real and typical Brazilian farmhouse kitchen. My grandparents used to have one very similar to this one. My grandma and I used to bake bread and pasta in a place like this one.
Fogao a Lenha
“Fogao a lenha” means wood stove. You cook all of your meals just as you see above. It’s wonderful during the winter, but remember we’re talking about Brazil, in the summer a stove like this one isn’t as fun as you imagine.
Neusa, The Chef.
This is the chef “Neusa”. She’s responsible for the delicious meals that are included in the price. They have their own vegetable garden and they prepare their own cheese (queijo caseiro).
Food & Fruits
Nothing compares to fresh fruit.
Light
I love the simplicity of these pendants.
Dining Room
This is one of my favorite rooms in the house.
Antiques
Gorgeous pieces of furniture.
Crafts
This tablecloth is hand-painted. Don’t you just love the colors?
From Home
Gorgeous flowers from the garden.
Doors
Even the doors are rich in charm.
Bedroom
This is one of 12 bedrooms the house offers.
Windows
Imagine laying here and feeling the warm breeze coming in the room.
More of the Best
More beautiful antiques.
Daybed
How can you not to fall in love with the simplicity of this place?
Bathroom
I simply love everything in this space.
Study
This used to be a study, and now it’s used by the guests as a library.
Horses
The bed & breakfast also offers horse riding included in the price.
Ceramic
Beautiful ceramics.
Pool
This pool surrounded by the garden feels very “zen”.
Listen
Imagine sitting by here and simply listening to the water. How relaxing!

A Gift
Believe in perfection.

Seeing this place made me realize how much I’m missing summer, my family in Brazil and the simplicity of a life in the country. Even if we have a busy life, we always can try to learn something with this kind of life, where we work to have beauty surrounding us, where we breath the fresh air and you keep believing and doing something to achieve your dreams on a daily basis.
I’m keeping my roots alive and my dreams will be reachable.
