As we all know, the kitchen is always the heart of the home. This is where we cook, eat and spend most of our time as a family, and no matter how nice other rooms of the house might look, you and every guest always ends up in the kitchen. That’s why it doesn’t surprise me to see kitchens designed with family life and entertaining in mind, where its design easily welcomes any situation, from a busy afternoon with the kids doing their homework on the island while snacking on a bowl of cereal to friends wearing their high heels and savoring a glass of wine after a dinner party.
Designed by Martha O’Hara Interiors, this bistro style kitchen feels fresh and timeless. A large island with butcher’s block countertop offers plenty of workspace and warmth against the kitchen cabinets painted in Benjamin Moore OC-17 White Dove.
And like with most of bistro kitchens, the designer couldn’t forget to add a charming breakfast nook. This one even comes with a cute pass-through window!

Bistro Style Kitchen with Breakfast Nook
This kitchen not only offers a very inspiring design but also a perfect color scheme. The ceiling paint color is Benjamin Moore Baby’s Breath OC-62. Trim and millwork are Benjamin Moore OC-17.
Pull-Out Spice Rack
Pull-out spice racks were added on both sides of the range to offer extra storage space.
Beautiful & Practical
A kitchen can’t be only beautiful, it has to be practical as well. Here, the designer added cabinets with basket drawers (perfect for vegetables), wine fridge and a built-in microwave in the kitchen island. The cabinet hardware are from Top Knobs, the Dakota Collectionn and the Normandy Collection in Polished Nickel.
BM OC-17 Kitchen
The kitchen cabinet are painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17. Pendant lighting used above kitchen island are the Grosvenor One-Light Downlight by Sandy Chapman.
Kitchen Backsplash
The backsplash in this kitchen is a 4″ x 8″ gray glass subway tile in Imperial Gris from The Tile Shop. Notice that this kitchen uses wallpaper on walls instead of paint. Very bistro!
You probably have noticed by now the black window sashes in this kitchen. It sure delivers a bold pattern against the white cabinets and gray backsplash tiles.
The paint color used in the window sashes is Farrow and Ball Off Black 57.
Kitchen Perimeter Countertop
The perimeter countertop in this kitchen is polished Roman White Granite.
Kitchen Island
The kitchen island measures 8′ 7″ x 4′ and the countertop is walnut with custom stain. Notice how open yet cozy this kitchen feels.
Breakfast Nook
Isn’t this a great breakfast nook? The paint color is Harbor Gray by Benjamin Moore AC-25.<
The custom table features granite countertop and wrought iron base. Chandelier is the Emmeline 6-Light Chandelier from Ballard Designs.
Pass-through Window
A small pass-through window connects this side of the kitchen to the breakfast nook and delivers an old charm feel.
The wallpaper used in the entire kitchen is the Thibaut Petite Diamond (T1812).
Family Room
While the remain window sashes in the house are subtly painted in white, a custom armoire connects the kitchen to this family room.The paint color is the same used on the kitchen windows; Off Black 57 by Farrow and Ball. Wall paint color is BM AC-25.
Coffee table is by Bernhardt Furniture.

Is anyone watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup that’s happening in Canada right now? I am beyond excited today because we’re going on a trip to watch Brazil play against Costa Rica. But that’s not all, my friends… We met the Brazilian coach another day and it turns out that we have a lot in common. In fact, he used to live in the same city where I am from in Brazil. We talked for a long time, together with my kids and husband and, since my daughter plays soccer and dreams to be a professional player, he kindly invited us to watch the Brazil team practicing. Isn’t that amazing?
The kids, my husband and I had one of the most amazing moments of our lives. Soccer is more than a passion for any Brazilian and I grew up watching soccer on TV every Sunday and played all the time with my grandfather. Seeing the Brazilian players right there, in front of me was surreal.
Everyone, from the coach, staff to the players were incredibly welcoming. We talked many times and the kids even played soccer. What else? Being a huge fan of Marta (Marta Vieira da Silva), the most popular female Brazilian soccer player, my daughter had the chance to meet and talk to her, which was registered by a Brazilian journalist and my daughter’s story was on a sport news website. Pretty cool, right?
If you knew me, you would know that I don’t care about idols, media, famous people. I can admire many of them but I wouldn’t wait for an autograph. I am a bit uncomfortable asking and even a little shy. But this means a lot to me because I could see how this experience positively influenced my daughter. She is so into sports and has big dreams. Spending time with the Women’s Brazilian Soccer Team was a huge inspiration for her. You dream, you believe, you work really hard on your goals and they can become your reality. She understood and could experience that yesterday.
I couldn’t be more grateful to the coach, Vadao. Without his tender heart and simplicity, all of this would never be possible.
Today Brazil is playing and like I said to the coach, I feel they deserve to win because people like that, with a real heart, with so much care for others, these are the people that truly deserve to be winners. I saw how hard the girls and all the staff work, but most of all, I could see that they are kind to each other and anyone who comes to them and I sincerely hope that their dream also come true. What a day!!!
I share so much about my life with you guys and I couldn’t leave this behind. 🙂
