When this young family decided to build their two-story family home they knew they wanted an easy and comfortable layout, that’s why they didn’t hesitate to ask the builders from Carl M. Hansen Companies to design their dream home.
The stunning home is elegant, sophisticated and relaxed all at once. Highlights include white oak hardwood floors, a sophisticated sitting room with built-in bookshelves in the foyer, a casual kitchen with a gorgeous white and grey marble center island, dark gray Caesarstone quartz countertops, two Sub-Zero refrigerators, and two dishwashers. The showstopper in the informal dining room is a casual farm-style table near a large picture window, providing views of the pond out back.
The family’s mother-in-law often visits, so thoughtful consideration was given to her main floor bedroom, with a separate door framed in so she can maintain a sense of independence and place. The kids’ rooms, master suite and bath, guest suite, bonus room, and game room are located on the upper level.
The lower level features a custom wine cellar, exercise room, hockey room, and a walkout for easy access to pond hockey games in the backyard. Watch the playoffs on the large flat-screen TV from your seat at the custom reclaimed timber bar.
Once the snow melts and the skates are put away for another season, the family can relax on their cozy front porch, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a drink on the deck, just a few steps from their giant outdoor pizza oven. Another fun aspect? The homeowners are toying with the idea of planting cold-hardy grapes on their acre of property, creating their very own little vineyard.
Are you ready to start this week getting inspired by the practical layout of this home? So, let’s do it!
This home was brilliantly designed inside and out. A side entry garage adds charm to the house.
Porch
Stunning architectural details are seem in everywhere here. Notice the singles and the classic trims and columns.
Landscaping
Landscaping was done by Hedberg Supply Landscape and Masonry.
Front Door
I love the idea of using wooden door with painted sidelights.
Foyer
The foyer was kept simple, with classic lines. Notice the timeless white oak hardwood floors.
Bench
This home is full of great ideas, including this built-in bench with bookshelves in the foyer.
Double-Sided Fireplace
A double-sided fireplace divides the living room from kitchen.
Living Room
This small living room is full of character! I would choose a “quieter” rug, such as sisal, but I have to say that I am loving the energy found here. I’m also loving the built-in bookcase.
Light It Up
I often recommend my clients to add picture lights above their bookcases. It’s a practical and pretty addition to their space.
Dining Room
A casual dining room is located between the living room and kitchen.
Elements
This home showcases beautiful decorative elements such as stone, wood and metals.
Get Together
Isn’t this an inspiring floor plan? I really like how connected yet private this entire space feels.
By the Fire
Wouldn’t it be nice to sit by the fireplace, with a glass of wine, while someone cooks dinner for you? 😉
Kitchen
I am loving this casual kitchen! The dark flooring contrasts with the crisp white cabinets.
Countertop
The island features a marble-like Caesarstone quartz countertop.
Kitchen & Pantry
The kitchen opens directly to the pantry/office. This is a wonderful layout!
Kitchen Pantry/Office
This space features a L-shaped desk and built-in bookcases.
Stools are Crate & Barrel Spin Swivel Backless Barstools.
Red & Gray
Great home office with red gooseneck barn lights, gray cabinets and white and gray harlequin tiled floor.
Laundry Room & Craft Room
The pantry/home office opens directly to the laundry room/craft room. The craft room has its own wrapping station.
Mudroom
A practical mudroom is located just off the laundry room.
Ideas
This is a very popular mudroom design that can be done in any space, big or small: mudroom bench with tongue and groove walls and shelves above.
Powder Room
The powder room features top half of walls with modern floral wallpaper and bottom half of walls with tongue and groove.
Reading Nook
A small landing area with built-in bookcase welcomes you to the second level of the house.
Isn’t this a great spot to relax with a good book?
The kids’ rooms, master suite and bath, guest suite, bonus room, and game room are also located on the upper level.
Master Bedroom Paint Color
Gray paint color is “Coventry Gray by Benjamin Moore.”
Decor
The decor is very simple and calming in this master bedroom.
Closets
This is yet another great idea found in this home; separate his and her closets are located on either side of a hallway, which leads you directly to the master bathroom.
Bathroom
The master bathroom is quite narrow (the price you pay to have separate his and her closets 😉 ), but was well-designed.
Shower
Floor-to-ceiling white tiles make this shower feel larger and brighter.
Nursery
What a cozy and sweet nursery… I miss my kids being babies to have cute nurseries like this one. 🙂
Gray Bathroom
This bathroom features gray walls, gray vanity and gray penny round floor tiles with dark grout.
Bath
The bath nook features gorgeous floor-to-ceiling gray subway tiles.
Above Garage Bedroom
Located above the garage, this bedroom feels spacious and it has a nice layout.
Desk
It’s always a good idea to place a desk in a guest bedroom. If you don’t have much space, try to place it on one side of the bed.
Bathroom
This Jack-and-Jill bathroom features an all-white separate bathing area.
Basement
The basement features a custom wine cellar, exercise room, hockey room, and a walkout for easy access to pond hockey games in the backyard.
Bar
I love the idea of placing a “bar” with island behind the media room. This is perfect to place and prepare snacks for the “crowd”.
Island
The custom island is made of reclaimed timber.
Hockey-Land
I know where my kids would be if we lived in this house. Isn’t this fun?
Walkout Basement
This mudroom is located by the outdoor patio. Flooring is slate.
Backyard
If you know me, you know I love private, calm backyards… this one is over an acre and it even comes with a pizza oven!
Pond
During the winter, the kids like to go skating on the pond we see at the end of the property.
Mamma Mia!
Oh, I would love to have an outdoor pizza oven like this one. They’re also great to bake breads! I used to do this with my late grandmother when I was a small child. The taste is incredible, and the memories, unforgettable. 🙂
Back of the House
Isn’t this a beautiful home? I hope you loved it as much as I did. 🙂

Are there plans for this house? Love the office off the kitchen which is then connected to the mudroom. Brilliant!!
Hi Michelle.
I recommend you to contact the designer personally for more details.
Thank you.

Curious as to what carpet you have in here. Would love the name/brand/color.
Thanks!
