One of the my favorite things about the “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series is that it will never get boring. Each week we see homes as unique as the homeowners, each with its own style and personality. Today, I am very excited to feature the first December “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”. This rustic farmhouse, owned and decorated by Lucy Rose of @birdie_farm, is truly stunning! This is where this talented family with four little kids live and run a farm.
The home features rustic details such as log siding, reclaimed beams, real reclaimed plank hardwood floors, rustic cabinets and rustic wood lighting. The interiors seem to embrace you and remind you what should always come first in life: family.
Here’s what Lucy Rose has to say about her home:
“In 2013 we first laid eyes on the most beautiful property we had ever seen, fell madly in love, and began the journey of building a home. We knew immediately that we wanted to build our forever home in a way that honored the property, and felt organic, so modeling it after a homestead quickly became our inspiration. We put our heart and soul into our home, and feel like we are living in a dream, and could not be more thankful and grateful that we had the opportunity to do so!”

We’re very lucky for getting to know their charming farmhouse today.
This home is welcoming at any time of the year, but I have to say that it looks even more inviting around Christmastime!
Antique Workbench Table: Family heirloom from Grandma Rosemary.
Can a rustic foyer look any better than this? These Christmas trees are decorated with vintage Christmas ornaments.
The other side of the foyer features a rustic console table. Believe it or not but the homeowner found this reclaimed wood table.
All walls are painted in Benjamin Moore OC-130 Cloud White.
Cabinetry: The idea was to use a variety of woods, and color combinations to achieve a look of multiple found pieces instead of looking like built ins, but with the functionality of a modern kitchen. We also chose to use chicken wire for some of the doors to achieve a rustic feel.
The hanging cabinetry above the kitchen island was to add more storage space. It is made out of reclaimed Wyoming fence, and is suspended from the ceiling by industrial pipes.
An antique table is placed against the kitchen island to extend the size of the island and to be easily accessed by small children. The antique table is a family heirloom, Grandma Rosemary.

Kitchen Stove: Bluestar.
Natural mini pine trees wrapped in burlap in a rustic antique dough bowl add a Christmassy feel to the kitchen.
Kitchen island dimension: 5’11” x 5′.
Chicken wire light fixtures provide farmhouse whimsy. This rustic lighting is from Shades of Light.
Slate gray painted alder cabinets mixed with those fashioned from distressed oak keep the kitchen feeling as if it was renovated over time. The blue cabinetry in kitchen was first stained, painted white, then custom blue, and then distressed.
Cabinet paint color is custom through William Ohs Showroom in Denver, Co. Similar paint color is Benjamin Moore West Coast – distressed and glazed.
Chicken wire keeps the rustic oak cabinet reminiscent of farmhouse kitchens of the past.
Cabinet Hardware is from Rocky Mountain Hardware.
The open shelving also adds to the farmhouse charm that we adore. For the open shelves, we used 2 x 12 solid oak. It’s two slabs, the bottom is glued and brad nailed into the wall, and then I found antique brackets to hold up the second slab that is the shelf.
Window Treatment: Found antique grain sack.
Farmhouse sink is Shaw’s Original farmhouse sink.
A linear industrial light fixture from Shades of Light, is located above the farmhouse sink.
This cute “Fox” cookie jar is from Painted Fox Home.
A floor of concrete tiles on the diagonal gives the impression of terracotta, but with a much higher durability. Flooring is ARTO concrete tiles.
Kitchen Hutch Countertop: 2″ reclaimed yellow pine from Reclaimed Design Works in dark walnut stain.
You can tell by the amount of mugs how much Lucy Rose loves coffee, right? Isn’t this coffee station a dream?
We have family in the coffee business, and we were able to learn how to make a mean espresso, so being avid coffee drinkers we decided to incorporate the Elektra Deliziosa espresso machine into our coffee bar!

The kitchen countertops was a conundrum! We searched high and low for a white granite that looked like marble. I love the pure white of marble, but having four kiddos, it was a MUST to have the durability of granite. We found the perfect slabs that fit all the criteria, and it’s Parana White Granite.
Open shelves in reclaimed oak and antique iron brackets allow for casual and “at your fingertips” storage.
Backsplash: Ken Mason 2 x 4.25.
An aged copper hood adds warmth to this rustic kitchen. Hood is Raw Urth.

A vintage coffee grinder is located between the dining room and kitchen.
Holiday Tablescape: This is my absolute favorite time of year! Tis the season of gathering together with our friends and family! Feasting, laughing, and making beautiful memories. Your table ensemble sets the mood! Its fun to switch things up every year, but I’m a huge advocate in using what you already have and not feeling like you have to go purchase all new place settings, china, and etc. This year I’m going for a rustic, romantic, and casual-esque: laid-back-fancy, if you will. 😉

Adding greenery to the hanging chandeliers really punch up the “special occasion” vibe, not to mention they look awesome, and smell divine!

Using a grain sack runner, and ditching the formal placemats, instantly puts a youthful spin on formal dining. I’m using our mason jars for iced waters, and these vintage soda pop bottles for a great pop of color, but really they could be any drink of your choosing. I love using these tall clear vintage inspired bottles to refill water glasses. For the napkins, I used twine, and cut roses from from our garden to add pops of color, and to bring an additional nature element to the table!
I styled my dough bowl from Bleu Spruce for the centerpiece, making sure to use vibrant colors- red apples, preserved boxwood ball, lavender, and then pinecones, and a mini white pumpkin.
For large gatherings, I use a bench on one side of the table for additional seating. 🙂

This rustic staircase feature reclaimed wood timber steps and iron banisters.

The wood floors are antique reclaimed oak, with a water based finish.The product in this house has an original face on it – not sanded, which keeps the antique reclaimed wood floors looking very rustic. The water based finish keeps the coloring more brown than orange.
Paint color is Benjamin Moore Cloud White.
This boy’s bedroom mix industrial and rustic furniture. I love the navy accent color.
A floating vanity made from distressed wood and stone keep this narrow space open and light. Rustic mirrors and and vintage lighting add a western industrial flair.
Countertop is Torreon stone slab.
Wall mounted faucets are Ferguson.
Reclaimed tin roof v-chanel material lines the shower walls. Ceramic “brick” tile adds to the rustic appeal with ultimate durability.

The master bedroom is cozy and also features log siding.

A country view can be enjoyed from the master bedroom.
Painted and glazed alder cabinets make up this double sided vanity, which ends in a custom distressed oak cabinet fashioned to look like furniture. Mirrors hung by antique chains allow light to bounce through the space, and the homeowners to interact with each other.

Jokes apart, I grew up going to my grandparents’ farm every weekend and this home, this picture especially, brings me some special memories. I love city life, restaurants, stores, all of that, but nothing can be compared with the peace you feel when being in the country with animals and with plenty of land between your house with the next.
The beauty of this country home is truly impressive.
Can you imagine yourself roasting marshmallows and sharing stories with your friends here?

Beautiful! Very inspired from your pictures. In the dining photo with the blankets draped over the end chairs, those are amazing, and different than the other metal-backed chairs. Where are they from or are they the real thing?
