The Cool or Fool of this week is all about love OR hate and nothing in between. I saw this bedroom the other day from a listing of a house in Beverly Hills. The house itself is very trendy and even has an interesting family room designed by interior designer Michael Taylor. I was loving the house, until I got to this picture. I took a long look at this bedroom and I wondered how far should we go when designing our rooms. We all agree that we should decorate our homes however makes us happy but when you’re in this business you end up seeing many, many rooms that have great potential but instead of looking fabulous, they become victims of the trends and end up looking totally overdecorated.
Looking at this room, you’ll see many great elements, including the beautiful architecture of the room itself. But you’ll also see the yellow tufted walls, the same fabric used on the chaises are also used on the bed board and pillows. Too much? Well, you take a look and tell me know if this master bedroom looks Cool or Fool.

I don’t even want to know why this person needs padded walls 🙂 I agree that it’s a fool. The ceiling alone is so fantastic. I would try to draw attention to that, not away from it with everything else going on in there. I think just losing the walls and the window treatments would make a huge improvement.

The curtains alone are so overdone and ridiculous. Just imagine all the good that could’ve been done for needy people with the money spent on this room. Kinda makes me angry when I see all this wretched excess.
Wow, I can’t believe I am willing to say I actually like the room. The color combos are a bit too much but there are some really nice pieces. The bedside tables and credenza are great as well as the lamps and chandelier. If only the main color wasn’t yellow.
Way too much for me! The whole wall looks like it is a headboard!

FOOL for me, huge room just overdone, I don’t know where to look first!!!!! The upholstered walls, the colors, the patterns, its just too much. I see soft ivories and calming blues in there, and then it would be spectacular because the room itself is a great and grand room, just needs a really good makeover!

I’m going to have to go with fool too. For starters, the decor doesn’t jive with the architecture. That ceiling screams “mid century modern” or California contemporary. And the decor is a mix of everything BUT items that suit it. There are some great pieces and ideas here, but the sum of the parts is much less than the whole.
I hate it. So I guess that’s ‘Fool’. What happened to light and airy? The ceiling and the light in this space are calling for more of the same. I’m always curious with bedrooms that are so full of unrest like this one, about how the occupier sleeps at night. Do they really ‘rest’… what’s really going on?

Who could relax, no less sleep, in a room like this? It reminds me of a scene from Mel Brooks’ High Anxiety. In it, Madeline Kahn, dressed in a hound’s tooth suit, was getting into her car with a hound’s tooth roof and hound’s tooth upholstery. It was meant to be funny, if you know what I mean.

I just don’t like the tufted wall & drapes. The rest, I like it a lot!
I hope you’re well. 4 more weeks!! So happy for you. I’ll be going to Sao Paulo in Nov. to meet my nephew and spend time with my sis. I’m willing to help her with the baby, but… I need to learn a lot to do that.

I’d have to say fool, too. BUT, I don’t think you’d have to remove a whole lot to make it into a cool room. I could deal with the yellow tufted fabric if it was only on one wall, but it’s going all the way around. And that window treatment is so over-the-top. I’d get a headache if I stayed in that room too long.
Yuck, not relaxing, not beautiful, not unified! Love the ceiling, kill the walls and I don’t care for any of the fabrics! Have a great weekend! Hope you are feeling well.
Oh I’d say its cool to experience sleeping in there…
but I honestly can not stay there for more than a couple of months.
Love the yellow color though.
Too much, too much…definitely fool! I have the willies now…and feel a bit unwell. I do like the ceiling very much though, and it looks like it has a nice balcony, but that’s it…poor room.

The first thing I thought was-what a great way to sound proof a room with those yellow tufted walls. I like the chandelier. I don’t think yellow is a good
color for me so I’m biased. I wouldn’t have it. I really don’t like the bedspread. Black and white means a gender change. I have to have pastels and frou-frou in my bedroom. God bless you as you approach the birth of your baby. I’m looking forward to hearing all about your new little one.
I have to say fool! I think it was the tufted wall that killed it. It could of been charming with the black and white and yellow.
Fool!! It’s like the decorator started at one end and just starting adding “stuff”.
The yellow walls and curtains are a bit too much for me. No way I could sleep there 😉
