Would you buy a house with carpet flooring in the kitchen? I think that would scare most of us, but not a talented designer like Katy Evans. Here, the designer shares some details about this jaw-dropping kitchen renovation project:
“Designing for yourself is never easy! When my husband and I bought this house it was stuck in the 1980’s it even had carpet in the kitchen! I knew that I wanted to have an “English kitchen”. I wanted to incorporate elements that we don’t get to use often in our kitchen designs. One of my favorite touches is the vent detail on my worktop cabinets. Those cabinets actually store our coffee maker and microwave and the vents allow air flow for appliances. I also, didn’t want to do your typical backsplash so I decided to go with vertical 1×6 boarding and continue that through out my first floor. I went back and fourth with marble or soap stone for my kitchen counters. I ultimately landed on this black honed granite that was similar in look to soap stone and love its durability.”

“Since my kitchen isn’t huge I didn’t want a big heavy island. Instead I designed an island that felt more like a furniture piece.” – Katy Evans.
The old kitchen felt dated and this is probably the first time I have seen carpet flooring in a kitchen. 🙂
Katy is so incredibly talented and she did an amazing job with this space. Who wouldn’t love to have a kitchen like this?! The island paint color is “Farrow and Ball Pigeon”.
I love every house Katy designs. She’s not only a visionary when it comes to interior design but also a very reliable professional. 🙂

“One of our favorite design elements to integrate is a hidden door. When I saw how the powder room was set up in a hallway I knew I would be able to this. I carried the 1×6 vertical boarding from the kitchen into the powder room hall and entry. Since I have 8ft ceilings this helps add height to these spaces.” – Katy Evans.
