Decorating an apartment can be a challenge when you are trying to get the most out of your space and make it look really good as well. You have to be very careful not to overdo it, or it won’t result in how you pictured your home design to be.
Function is the most important aspect to think of when decorating an apartment. Since your space is limited, so is your storage. Having furniture that doubles as storage is a number one priority to make sure that your apartment isn’t a cluttered mess. End tables, coffee tables, ottomans and floating shelves can be used to store everything from file boxes and crafts, to games and whatever items you would prefer not lay around. This can be also taken into consideration in the bedrooms, with beds that have built in drawers as the base. The floating shelves can be used to show off your collections and knick knacks.
If you can’t find any really good apartment decor ideas, you can always look at cottages and see how they work their space. The space sizes are much the same and great to get ideas from.
Furniture Arrangement
Furniture arrangement should not only be aesthetically pleasing, but also not take up valuable walking space. Over sized furniture is probably not a good idea either. While they may be comfy in their fullness, a smaller couch and chair set will make your room look much larger. If your apartments walls cannot be painted over, use colorful hangings, paintings and such to help add color to your room. You can easily match some of it to pillows and throws, or even colorful rugs, that will give your space a really great look.
Finding the Ideal Apartment
Apartments are particularly difficult to decorate because of their limited layouts. Fortunately, Post Brothers Apartments in Philadelphia are easy to decorate, as they have a great layout and are rather spacious for studio/one-bedroom apartments. They are also eco-friendly – including Energy Star kitchen and laundry appliances, high-efficiency light bulbs, new high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, double-pane thermal insulated windows, and heavy insulation throughout their rooms – which is great for the environment and for your wallet. To make the most out of space such as those at Post Brothers, use mirrors – they will make your space look larger by reflecting natural light. Make sure to hang them where they can catch the light from the windows. Make small adaptations to your apartment that will hide exposed plumbing with curtains and such.
Be Creative
Adding new shelving to your closets can help eliminate the problem of finding good storage space. Baskets and storage boxes can help corral those items that you need to keep in one place. Multipurpose hampers can be used for more than just laundry. You can use them for storage of whatever items you want. One by the front door will do great to store umbrellas, hats, gloves and such. Hooks on the wall or in a bookcase type unit near your front door can also be used for coats and jackets. This will also create a “entryway” look just inside, basically dual function products are always a win-win!
There are so many different ways to decorate an apartment and help create a spacious look, that you will be amazed. All you need to do, is be creative and buy wisely with thought to function, so almost everything you have will do double duty.
