I’m Lindsey Marlor, I am the creative mind behind the blog Pillow Thought.
I am a wife, full-time mom, a college graduate in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising and Photography. I fell in love with the blogging world back in 2010 where I love to showcase my love for design. I love styling and staging and having a space to share my creative side!
I feel so privileged to be featured on this gorgeous site and I was excited when I was asked to share our home sweet home with all of you! We moved to the Dallas Fort Worth area in Texas almost three years ago. We rented for our first year while got a feel for the big city and found our home a year later. We were in a quick transition to get out of our rental and into a home so we didn’t have time for building. After three-four months of searching we found our cute spec home! Spec homes if contracted by a buyer early enough in the building process can have finishes customized to the buyer’s wishes. Some builders even build a home leaving out flooring and other finishes in the hopes a buyer will like the space and want to select their own finishes. We however were too late in the process and were only able to pick out a shade of carpet. To be honest, this wasn’t our dream home by any means… but we fell in love with the neighborhood and the price was right! Over the last couple of years we have been lucky enough to dive into some pretty fun projects and make it feel more like our home! We haven’t gotten to every room in our home, but here are the rooms and projects we have been able to tackle thus far! It’s been such a fun journey and I have loved every minute of seeing how these spaces come together!”

First things first, PAINT!
Our whole house was beige, even the ceilings! I could not wait to ditch the beige! I wanted to go with white walls and my husband wanted gray, my husband won on this one, and I’m glad we went with the gray walls since we were doing white cabinets!
We decided to start with painting the entry/living area gray (Tinman by Kawll Paint at Sherwin Williams) and the ceilings white. We also had our black cabinets painted white and we picked the shade of white that best matched the trim, which ended up being “Snowbound by Sherwin Williams”.
The countertops were not my all time favorite but not something that had to be changed, so we kept them.
We also changed the backsplash to a basic white subway tile and added hardware to our kitchen cabinets.

Figuring out our living room was a daunting task for me. It took a good while to figure out the style of the room since our living, kitchen, and dining all basically roll into one area. I wanted a soft, bright, neutral space.

The media cabinet keeps everything hidden and organized.
One of my favorite rooms in the house is our laundry room! The original cabinets in there made no sense what so ever and it drove me crazy. We had those torn out and started over! We had my husband’s cousin install our shiplap, frame the windows and built new shelves! Later we had a tile guy come rip out our existing tile and swapped it out with something cleaner. Then had a painter come out and paint the shiplap walls in Snowbound by Sherwin Williams.

Can I just say I love this room? It has been so nice to have it! It is our date night escape after we put the kids to bed. I was not a fan of making this one of our first projects… but I can honestly say it was so worth it! I was going for more of an industrial style media room.
We used our existing Kivik Modular Sofa in Dansbo Dark Gray from Ikea for our couches and just had to add on a double piece to make things work in there! I also found the perfect industrial media stand from World Market. Oh, and every media room needs a bar cart, aka Treat Bar, and the metal one behind the couch is perfect for us!

Our first thing we decided to do was PAINT! I didn’t want it to feel like a dungeon so I went with a greige paint color. I chose Requisite Gray by Sherwin Williams — Not too dark, not too light!
Screen: We went with a Da-Lite Fixed Screen with an Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 2030.
Lighting: I swapped out the lighting which I found at Lowe’s, and I am very proud to say that I did all the electrical and installing by myself!! My husband was out of town and I just could not wait! I did however face-time my dad to get some tips but I was pretty excited I did it!!

I chose a fun playful eclectic room for the girls playroom! I am a sucker for pastels.. so those were the colors of choice!
