Beautiful Homes of Instagram became one of Home Bunch’s most popular (and pinned) series almost the moment it was launched and I believe one of the main reasons is that we, you and I, can read and learn about a new homeowner each week. Most of these people are not interior designers but they have plenty of talent, knowledge and they are not afraid to decorate their home following their own style. Seeing a different home and getting to know a new homeowner is what keeps this series fresh and interesting week after week.
I started following Mel from @whistiques, on instagram the moment I saw how she meticulously embraces her own personality in every space of her home. There’s not a space that lacks style or beauty, and the attention to detail is evident in every room of her beautiful home.
To say that I am honored to have Mel here with us is an understatement and I hope you feel as happy as I am to have yet another talented homeowner opening the door for us all to come in! Thank you, Mel!
My name is Mel and I am behind IG account, Whistiques. I am very honored to be included in the Home Bunch IG series, ‘Beautiful Homes of Instagram’ as I am a huge fan of Luciane and her incredible social media platform. Home Bunch is the perfect source for gorgeous homes in such a variety of styles. I enjoy learning about the owners and their design influences. The attention to extra details such as paint and product/material sources are a huge resource for me.
I am a married mother of three teenagers. My former career was in public relations and corporate fundraising, but I am currently a stay-at-home mom.
I have lived all over the United States, initially in the East Coast where many relatives still reside and I’ve spent many summers. We have embraced opportunities to relocate through my husband’s career and have lived in Austin, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and currently, Dallas. We have had six homes along the way. Some homes required renovations, others were new builds. As we have moved every few years, we have developed an interest in design, landscaping and decor. We enjoy (for the most part) the process and challenge of creating a comfortable inviting home for our family and friends as well as a home that will be marketable when it’s time to move.
Living in different parts of the United States as well as our travels in Europe and Australia have influenced my taste over the years. Some very talented friends with design backgrounds and social media creatives have also influenced my style. Currently, my style would best be described as transitional, classic and chic. My palette is neutral, but I like to incorporate pops of color. I love the contrast of light/dark and am a huge fan of black/white & stripes. I also love adding a bit of fashion and pop art to decor. I have found some amazing artists through IG and have included some of their art in my home.
We currently live in a suburb between Dallas and Forth worth. We enjoy the unique culture of both cities. Our current home was a new build in a relatively new neighborhood. The homes were built by a variety of custom home builders, creating a unique look to each home.
This home was a spec home by Toll Brothers. It was already half-finished when we came in, but we could include some of our own choices and finishes.
The landscaping and pool was designed by my husband in conjunction with local landscaping companies and a pool company. My husband and I have become a good team: My interest and knowledge is with interiors and his is exteriors. In fact, my husband purchased three of our previous homes sight-unseen by me (but with my approval) because we are familiar with each other’s wish lists and must-haves. In some cases, we are also on a time crunch with a relocation, so the decision must be made quickly. Each of our homes’ exteriors and interiors have been quite different and our tastes and styles have changed over the years. But our goal is always to create a comfortable space with a pleasing aesthetic. We welcome you to our Dallas home and hope you enjoy the tour!
