I wasn’t able to publish this week’s “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” on Sunday night as I usually do because of the bad weather we’re getting due the hurricane on the East Coast, but I am happy to be here today and share with you one of the most inspiring farmhouses on Instagram. Tyler Michelle, from OurFarmhouseFit is truly a sweetheart. This busy mom of three took some time to talk about her newly built home and she is sharing all of the details with us today. Meet Tyler:
“I’m so humbled Luciane would want to feature our home, it was a labor of love to our family. My husband and I both came from farming families and grew up among acres of raisins and almonds. We both have precious memories of carefree childhoods where we explored and played outside daily! When we began our own family we knew we wanted that same experience for our children, however we didn’t go into farming…so we were always on the look out for 1-2 acres to build our dream home!
After years of searching we finally found that perfect spot of land and began planning our build. People say that the Lord’s timing isn’t our own and as we started the drawing up the plans we found out we were pregnant with our third child! I have type 1 diabetes which leads to over 100 Dr. appointments during pregnancy, although it was a challenging time I was determined to continue with our dream and would visit the tile, appliance, and door stores, etc. in between dr. appointments.
We made it work! The day we poured our foundation was the same day I was in labor! Since we self contracted our build I was at the job site daily with our baby girl. We moved in just before her first birthday. So, it was a true labor of love. My husband and I look at each other and are just in awe of how it all worked out. We are so incredibly thankful and want to share our home with others. Not sure if you wanted to know all of that, but I thought Id share that story with you! Once we get these 2 acres landscaped — that’s a lot of grass! — I can come back to working on the inside and I’d love to share more!
I adore the farmhouse style, but I also love traditional, and some elements of modern farmhouse too… I used to think I had to have an exact style, but now I just go with: if I love it, then it really doesn’t matter! I think it’s much more interesting when there is an eclectic mix. My kids tease me by saying “Mom, your favorite colors are always black and white!” Its true though…so classic and then adding in texture with wood and greenery makes my heart happy!”
Let’s take a quick tour of Tyler’s new home!
The farmhouse porch features white siding painted in Sherwin Williams Pure White, black door, painted in Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black, and reclaimed brick flooring.
Tyler’s farmhouse kitchen is really stunning and this is the reason I invited her to be part of this series today. Isn’t it gorgeous?
Paint color throughout the house (walls) and on the kitchen cabinets is Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee. I adore white- It’s clean and crisp and produces a great canvas to add color as you want.
The cabinets are custom-made inset style.
The backsplash is brick pavers painted Sherwin Williams Swiss Coffee.
Cabinet Hardware is Atlas.
The perimeter countertops are honed and leathered Black Granite.
Kitchen lighting above island is from Shades of Light, Large Glass Cloche Pendant – $375 each.
Kitchen island is 10 feet long and 4 feet wide and has a stainless steel top. So many people discouraged that selection because of the scratching and smudging…but that’s what I wanted. I love the character it adds plus it’s indestructible!
The kitchen stools are Ballads Designs.
This faucet had just come out and I fell in love immediately! The combination of black and polished chrome is perfect! It’s the Brizo Artesso Single Handle Articulating Arm Kitchen Faucet – $590.
This cozy nook with banquette is perfect for family meals. The flooring is Lamett Bentley Rivera.
The nook chandelier is from Antique Farmhouse.
The nook also feature Dutch doors to the patio. Wall color is Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.
I love how Tyler makes every corner of her home feel inviting.
The dining room features an old cabinet, painted in a soft gray by the homeowners, and shiplap walls. The rustic dining room chandelier is from Painted Fox.
Tyler made her own chalk paint and says it was super easy to do so! She is so handy, isn’t she?!
This bathroom is full of great details, but these reclaimed wood mirrors really steals the show!
This farmhouse laundry room/mudroom features reclaimed plank countertop, shiplap walls and brick flooring.
With 2 dryers and a washer, this is seriously a dream laundry room!
The homeowner got the brick at a local tile shop. The brick is McNear Brick and the color is Dorado.
The brick was used as flooring as well. I love this look!
The grey cabinets paint color is Sherwin Williams SW 6184 Austere Gray.

Luciane,
I hope the weather has let up for you all on the East coast!
What a beautiful home! I always greatly admire the homeowners who self-contract. It’s a bigger job then I think most realize going in!
Can’t wait to see the house once it’s 100% complete.
