“The inspiration behind our Timber Trails Refined Rustic was the main hallway running down the length of the house. We knew we wanted natural alder beams with shiplap behind. We wanted the feel of the house to be masculine as we had just finished this same floor plan as a beach house. We wanted to give this plan a whole new feel with some dark moody moments among the overall light and natural feel of the home. The dark paint on the doors as well as the centrally located buffet catch your eye and draw you in.” – Julie Howard.

The bookcase was custom designed by the interior designer, Julie Howard and it was once created to surround a kitchen hood (you can see more here). I love the fact this stunning design was reinvented for this space. As you can see here, the bookcase features open yet hidden shelves. Brilliant!

We took the honed marble backsplash all the way up to the ceiling which is always a dramatic look. Because the marble is honed it has a rustic quality and doesn’t look too fussy in our relaxed kitchen.” – Julie Howard.

The floor was the inspiration for the whole room – I didn’t want to cover the pattern in any way with a cabinet so the open sink was the perfect choice. The cute storage tower allows for storage to make up for the lack of traditional cabinetry.
