As soon spring begins, many homeowners are ready to start with their new renovation project and I really hope this “Before and After” bathroom renovation gives you some inspiration!
Recently my friend Debi Traub of Simply Beautiful Eating – my favorite Canadian recipe blog – went on yet another gut renovation. She completely gut the upstairs main bathroom, the one her three boys used to use when they were small.
Debi, along with the help of her husband and her brother-in-law, replaced everything in this bathroom: flooring, lighting, vanity, you name it… but they kept the same layout to avoid extra expenses. Take a good look, get to know all details shared by this talented homeowner and start planning your own renovation. Making our home a better home is the best investment we can make.

One rule I tend to follow when it comes to bathroom design is to keep things simple but far away from being boring. Debi really knew how to create a space with personality without feeling busy! All elements complement each other in this space.
Before: This bathroom is quite small and having a closed-in shower made this room feel even smaller and darker.
After: It’s hard to believe it’s the same space, right?! Doesn’t this encourages you with your own projects?! It certainly encourages me! I absolutely love how much lighter and spacious this entire space feels… you can take a deep breath now! 🙂
You guys won’t believe this, but Debi found this “entertainment stand” (yes, you read it right!) at HomeSense Canada. How incredible is that?!

Lighting: Amazon or here & here – similar.
The wall-mounted bathroom faucets are Newport Brass.
Debi applied ready-to-install shiplap on walls. Color is Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White.
Lighting is from HomeSense – similar here.
The ivory and grey linen Roman shade is by Monaco Interiors – similar here.
Adding a glass shower enclosure was one of the best decisions made for this bathroom! This one is by DevTech (in Toronto) – Other Options: here, here & here.
Plumbing: Newport Brass Rainfall Shower Head, Handshower & Shower Valve Trim.
The homeowner added a shower nook for shampoo and soap using the same cement tile pattern.
Debi also used a classic Bianco Dolomite subway tile on the shower walls and added a dark grey grout to give it a gentle contrast.
Wall tile is from Sarana Tiles – also available: here.
This white and grey cement tile ties the entire bathroom together. Tip: Using the same tile on floors and shower pan makes the bathroom feel bigger. Keep that in mind when renovating! 🙂
Tile: Cement Tile Shop Leon I – similar: here – Others: here, here, here, here & here (porcelain).
This post shows us that any small bathroom can become more practical and functional and I really hope this renovation has inspired you as much as has inspired me.
This one is ready to be pinned! 🙂

I love the flooring, but am curious…I have been told in order to get the slope correct, shower floor tiles must be 6” or less….and where is the drain for the shower floor? I was not able to see one in any of the pictures.
Thanks!
Hi Kathleen,
I am sure the shower has a drain but I would think it’s located on the far left, where it was not photographed. Feel free to contact Debi if you need more details.
Thank you. 🙂
