This kitchen renovation project was your typical Scottsdale, Arizona, tract home smack dab in the middle of Blaise suburbia. The designer, Brittny Smith of Homesmith Design, along with her team’s goal with this project was to deliver a high-end luxury remodel with a mix of high and low-cost design elements in order to help her client’s budget stretch further. I love the mix of modern and traditional finishes, and I think the mix gives the home a really high-end look.
Design Tips: “Really get to know your personal design style. A good designer will be able to help you discover and define this if you aren’t sure what it is. Keeping this in mind when choosing the finishes and materials for your remodel will give it a cohesive quality that can be the difference between a high end and piecemeal renovation.”- Homesmith Design

Architecture Style: “Like most suburban tract homes, there was little architectural detail to speak of initially. Most builder grade homes in the greater Phoenix area borrow from Spanish Mission and Mediterranean architectural styles with tile roofs, greek columns, segmented arches and stucco. We always try to take cues from the architecture of each home we renovate. This home was no different. We kept the walls light and airy in keeping with the Spanish Mission style and repeated the segmented arches from around the house for the built-in coffee bar. We introduced a pseudo four-centered arch for the statement plaster hood. In addition to holding the architectural style of the home in our minds, we also strive to infuse the home with the design aesthetic of our clients. In this case we tried to keep everything clean and minimal.”- Homesmith Design

Kitchen Before: Before this kitchen was uninspiring with no true focal point.
“With an entirely new layout, we created this gorgeous focal point for the kitchen with a custom plaster hood and a luxurious quartzite backsplash. By removing the sliding glass door to the side yard and replacing it with a beautiful architectural window above the new sink location, the kitchen not only has better functionality but another stunning secondary focal point.”- Homesmith Design
“Finally we were able to keep the kitchen within budget by mixing high and low cost finishes. For example, the perimeter cabinets are simple pre-made shaker cabinets from Highland Cabinetry that we’ve painted this soft warm white. (Sherwin Williams White Heron) The island was an area we were able to splurge a bit with savings from the perimeter with this classic white oak beauty with custom end panels fabricated by @builders_flooring_and_design. This new kitchen window was an inexpensive element to the room that made a huge impact to the overall design. Low cost porcelain tile on the window wall allowed us to splurge on the quartzite countertops from @Aztile calledl Taj Mahal.” – Homesmith Design
