This Del Mar, California whole-home remodel project by Spaces Renewed transformed a once outdated and fragmented, Spanish split-level house into a cohesive, Spanish Modern two-story beachside home. The primary goals were to create an open yet defined living space, improve functionality, and introduce contemporary design elements. This extensive renovation involved significant structural changes, including reworking the floor and ceiling levels, relocating the staircase, and expanding various rooms to enhance the home’s overall flow and usability.

Initial Challenges: “Originally, the house had a choppy floor plan with a sunken dining room, a kitchen on a different level, and a family room disconnected from the rest of the living spaces. The staircase was awkwardly placed right near the entrance, obstructing the flow. The master bedroom and bathroom were notably small, prompting a complete redesign. The client wanted a more traditional two-story layout, open-concept living areas with defined spaces, and modern design elements to replace the outdated features.” – Spaces Renewed

“The kitchen was significantly extended towards the back to provide more space, and the family room was expanded forward. This reconfiguration allowed for a larger, more functional kitchen and an open, yet defined flow into the dining and family rooms.
