The home is an investment first and foremost because many people dream of selling their home for double or triple of what they paid for it. Adding value to the property can be done through renovations as well as additions. Character isn’t so straight forward as many people define it differently. Some think a home has character just because it is old with older features. Others think homes have character simply by being quirky. Then there are homes that have character because of the interesting ideas people have for their interiors and outdoor areas. The following are tips for adding both character as well as value to your home and property.
A hot tub under a gazebo or, in this case, a pergola, could be a romantic and practical idea.
For many people the worst part of hosting company is worrying about the mess to clean up. Building some sort of garage to be enjoyed as more than a place to keep cars can be perfect for outdoor barbecues among other gatherings. Worrying about people spilling and making a mess is eliminated as all that has to be done is to hose off the garage floor.
This might seem like an idea for those people who meditate on a daily basis. This could not be further from the truth as this can be used as a place to simply get away from problems in life. If you ever needed a quiet place to read a book or even think over a big decision then a meditation hut can be a great addition to your home. You can make it from any variety of materials from metal sheds to a shed made of wood or plastic. This will be a small investment in your relaxation as well as stress relief. If nothing else, you should always have a place to think if a busy home doesn’t foster concentration.
The windows of the home play a huge part in the lighting that a home has. Most people do not want to live in a home that is dark as it seems to be dreary and lacking life. Having bright rooms make them look larger and allows you to use natural light instead of artificial light for a majority of the day. This not only saves you money on electric but it can help in the resale of a home. Old windows can actually cost you money as they might be poorly insulated or suited for a specific climate. Replace the windows and you will be adding value to your home.
As you can see there are plenty of things that you can do that do not include an entire home makeover. Simple changes can make a huge difference if they are done correctly. Try one of the above things to add value as well as character to your home.
