The well-known interior designer Nancy Serafini and her husband, Joe, bought this, once their vacation beach house, back in 1985 and saw her own kids enjoy every summer on the shores of this classic Nantucket shingle home. But it was in 2013 when the couple decided to make a definitive move from Boston to this quiet town that they decided to hire architect Tom Catalano to transform the quaint cottage into a home where she now can see her grandchildren grow.
Take notes on paint colors, decor and more details shared by the designer. This home is truly all about family and lasting love.
Where everything started: The design scheme began with color. “I love Farrow & Ball Dix Blue,” Nancy says. “Once I chose that, I chose all my fabrics. But I wanted navy, too, so the fabrics had to work with that as well.” The color we see here is the designer’s favorite color; Dix Blue by Farrow and Ball.
Meet Tony, the couple’s Wheaten Terrier. Is he cute? 🙂
The custom sconces are by Palmer.
The dining room’s pristine white walls, painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove, beautifully contrasts with the antique chestnut floors.
Pendant lights are through Ferguson.
Nancy’s kitchen became a very popular feature on the blog a few months back. You can see more of it here. The kitchen island paint color is Knoxville Grey by Benjamin Moore.
Kitchen pendant lights are by Ann Morris.
Blue and white show up again in the Caskata dinnerware.
Nancy designed this space with a seat for everyone in mind. A pair of John Duckworth photographs bring the outdoors in.
A pair of Verellen sofas and two swivel chairs face the fireplace.
The pillows feature a fabric by Dransfield & Ross.
Rug is a J.D. Staron rug.
The blue and white color palette comes in a variety of patterns and textures. I am loving this blue-and-white-tiled fireplace. The fireplace tile is from Showcase Tile.
Favorite shades of blue pop up in this William Yeoward print on the wing chair.
The coffee table is decorated with Creamware pitchers. Love this idea!
The designer loves to display her favorite antique dishware, such as the beloved pieces of Barge ware and blue-and-white Canton pottery, on the living room’s bookshelves. Aren’t they beautiful? Cabinet paint color is Benjamin Moore OC-17 White Dove.
Lighting is by Urban Electric Co.
The staircase leads to the new second floor and connects the main part of the house to the designer’s office and a guest suite.
Floors are antique chestnut floors.
What a great idea! Use barn pendants instead of one light fixture to add some extra charm!
The designer chose the master bedroom’s color scheme to complement the Toulouse-Lautrec prints left by Nancy’s father, a B-17 pilot in World War II. “They’re a remembrance of my mother and father.” says the designer.
Curtains and chaise by fabric is by John Robshaw for Duralee. Wing chair by Bunny Williams for Lee Jofa, covered in William Yeoward fabric from Studio534.
For this guest bedroom, the designer had some fun with color. She decorated this space in shades of mango and lime. Paint color is Sweet Pea Benjamin Moore, lightened with white.
Headboard is by Partners in Design.
Isn’t this bedroom cheerful? It feels like a happy summer day! 🙂
The chair, draperies and bed skirt fabric is by Duralee.
When a house becomes a home: “As the kids grew older and married, we wanted to build a true family home,” Nancy says. “Everyone gathers, and the laughter and cries keep us constantly jumping. Every pillow fight, every trip to the beach, they all have the best time. I look at the house as a gift to my kids and grandkids.”
The blue shutters paint color is Farrow and Ball Dix Blue.

I love the blue and white tile on the fireplace but can’t find a website for Showcase tile. Is that a brand of tile or an actual store?
