Although the best time of the year is approaching (aka Christmas!!!), this 1920’s colorful and happy coastal cottage designed by Cortney Bishop Design (previously featured here), will make you miss summer.
Here, the designer shares more details about this project: “When our client found the property, it was the quintessential Sullivan’s Island cottage with vertical beadboard walls and original heart-pine floors. Those original bones were too good to pass up, but we knew we could modernize the space and deliver a new bungalow with a more retro, surfer vibe. The interior configuration definitely need some work and to maximize the size for a family of five, we started with taking down the wall between the kitchen and living room. We replaced it with a peninsula island and custom, built-in banquette, creating a seamless living space. We also raised the 8′ ceilings – taking them up to 10′ at the peak which gave us an opportunity for an overhead loft space. Instantly, the room felt larger and more airy.”
