An average garage should cost about $25.000 to built, but when you have money to spare, you never think “average”, you simply let your imagination control your bank account and many times that’s not a wise or good decision.
For the owners of this San Juan Capistrano, California house having a normal garage wasn’t going to be good enough, so they built a garage that has barn-style hydraulic doors that open to a 35-foot mural (hand-painted by a team of 12) and, listen closely; the largest mosaic ever to be installed in a private home: the floor; which consists of Chinese marble tiles that took two years to assemble in place. When bored with the space, they take the cars out and bring their friends in! Yes, this garage also doubles as a ballroom!
I really don’t know what to say about this one. The luxury of having all of these materials and also, the decision of throwing parties in your garage simply does not go together. First, you have all the money to spent on a garage ($2 million dollars!) and then, you act so classless by having people dancing in your garage?!
Here’s what the owner had to say about the space: “I think the first time we brought cars in here, we both held our breath,” says former owner Shelley Brose, who also called the garage “a tad bit decadent, I agree, but it’s very useful.”
The garage also features a white, hand-carved Carrara-marble screen that obscure views of the urinal in the men’s bathroom.
What do you say about this one? Cool or Fool?
Alone
The most pampered car in America.
Matter of Taste or Lack of it?
This room alone costs more than most of our houses! Oh, and I’m sure we would spend this $2 million in a much wiser way!
How much do you think this house cost? It was on the market for quite some time for $50 million but it was sold in February for “only” $4.7 mil.
See the rest of the house here. But before you do that, make sure to tell me, is this $2 mil garage Cool or Fool*?
Do you have plans for the weekend? I woke up with a bad cold today and I hope it gets better, so I can get out of the house and enjoy the warmer weather. Let me know if you have know anything that makes you feel better, sooner! 🙂
Thank you for dropping by today. I hope you had fun and enjoyed your time here!

As opulent and beautiful as this space is, my first hit was definitely ‘fool’. I honestly cannot connect with this space in terms of its function. Connect with the space, yes, but as a garage, no… not at all.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend and that the sun is shining brightly over head…

I saw this on HGTV Million Dollar Rooms recently and my husband and I thought it was “fool” 🙂 He is a car lover and as much as he would want an amazing garage this was just too over the top and seemed like just throwing money down the drain!
Wow does it double as a catering hall? Amazing in that the workmanship and money put into it must be staggering but seriously who really needs a garage like that? Inlaid mosaic floors? A garage? Hum……just not my thing, but to each his own!
Hope you have a great weekend.
Hello Lu,
I saw this space on tv and it’s fool! I don’t want to judge the owner, but there is no reason to spend so much money in a garage. I would donate that money. Fool!
Happy weekend.
Big FOOL! If I was going to spend $2 million dollars it would be on the the house (and maybe a really cool pool), not the garage. Yikers! Missi
I saw this garage when they had it on TV and I have to admit while beautiful I could think of a hundred different ways to spend that much money….fool!
Enjoy your weekend!

Debra~
This is so sure someone who has more money than they know what to do with. The money could have been much better spent helping local people in need. It could have also been put towards scholarships for students that can’t afford education. I could go on and one where it could have been spent instead of a garage to show off to your friends.
I cant help to think of how many people in the world they could of helped instead of putting all that money into a garage for their cars. My vote, Fool……
Fool and fool, too much kitsh… too much money and flashy.. hehe
xoxo
A tad bit decadent is a tad bit underestimated. So much money that could have been put to much better use. The only upside is they employed a number of people for quite some time. I saw this house on HGTV today and could not understand the concept of garage cum ballroom. I would have to say “Fool” and in the long run, they likely lost money on the deal when they sold the house.
Best…Victoria
Foolish to spend money like that on a garage altho is is indeed beautiful.
Id have to say “fool”. The space does not match its function. However, that said…if this person is philanthropist with his money and STILL felt the need for this~ all the power to him. I think it could easily be used as a ballroom/party room if they often had parties though. So, it potentially could have many uses. Have a great Sunday!
With the money spent on the over decorated (?) house and garage I could only say these folks are not as rich as they think. They are poor at helping their fellow man. The Biltmore, a Vanderbuilt mansion has taste. This did not.
Fool.
A beautiful home must also be functional and to some degree practical. What if there was an oil leak on the mosaic? This feels like opulence for the sake of it.
Luciane,
Clearly money doesn’t buy taste, right? I agree with your other reader who suggested that maybe the space doubles as a party room…still, crazy.
Karen
FOOL! OMG, I cannot believe that people would actually carry out these things when people ARE hungry, even in America!
I thought the same thing! Great point.
Have a great day!

too much money combine with too much greed and add a whole lot of alcohol……..trashy overdone ballroom in the garage is the result.
Omg they have money to waste give some to the poor man
