I am so happy to be featuring this beautiful project done by interior designer Kate Abt from Kate Abt Design. Here’s what Kate has to say about these inspiring spaces:
“My clients had purchased their home in a beautiful country location but knew it needed updating, particularly in the entry and the living room. The entry had striped 90’s wallpaper all over and lacked the wow factor that my clients wanted. We knew we wanted to keep it updated but classic for years to come.
With an awesome team of craftsmen we paneled the whole entry and upstairs floor to ceiling and painted it white bringing in so much more light to the space. Existing wood floors were in good condition so we added a rug and replaced the stair carpet with a new runner. The foyer chandelier was changed out a classic lantern.
The living room leading off of the entry was pretty much unused and my clients weren’t sure what to do with it but a passion for books and reading meant bookcases were required. They also told me they loved barn doors and if could we add one somewhere to the design.
I have the most amazing clients who trusted me to push them out of their comfort zone and created a dark blue library. This room acted as a walk through room with no doors and cased openings on two walls. We decided to really make this a fully usable room with a purpose which has now become one of the most used rooms in the home. The barn door was added to close off the room to the entry and where pillars had once been we added French doors. Custom built-ins now flank either side of a fireplace and hold so many loved and treasured books for my clients.”
