Hello, everyone! I am very happy to be sharing this inspiring black and white kitchen with you guys today. This beautiful English cottage kitchen belongs to designer Alessia of reDesign Home. Here, the designer explains more about this incredible renovation:
“After purchasing a 1920s English cottage with my husband in summer 2016 I knew I wanted to make changes in order to get layout comfortable and functional for our family but without compromising the original charm and character of the house. Utilizing existing square footage, the space was transformed: multiple small rooms were combined into an open layout with no wasted space, and a few rooms were relocated in the current main floor layout. I tried to keep the original architectural details in the whole house and reproduced them to match the existing in new renovated areas. The house now features many timeless elements to be enjoyed for years to come.”

I just love when I find interiors that I haven’t seen anything like it before and this kitchen feels just that. It is fresh and inspiring without being too over-the-top!
Black cabinetry – for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, etc – are so in right now and I think it looks even more beautiful with dark hardwood floors and brass cabinet hardware, as we see here. Add white marble to it and you have a winner combination!
Hardwood Flooring: Red Oak, which was stained with a custom stain to match the existent flooring throughout the house. “Water pop” technique was applied to flooring before stain went on.
“Water Pop” technique: The floors are covered in water so that the wood will absorb it. Here, Alessia explains how it works: “The water opens up the grains and penetrates them. This makes them all more uniform in color when you stain the flooring.”

Hi.. I was just curious as to what finish was used on the kitchen cabinets.. semi gloss or satin?
Hi Colin,
The interior designer (I shared her link on the post) should be able to share this with you.
Thank you for your comment!
