Beautifully designed in 2008 by Hutker Architects, this 9600 sq.ft. coastal family home is full of inspiring interior ideas with a very elegant approach.
Located in West Falmouth, MA, this home sits on the water’s edge overlooking the entrance to the harbor and beyond. The gambrel roof house was designed to “fit in” to the historic, turn of the century architecture that dominates the peninsula it is located on, while at the same time, provide the owner with the benefits of modern living on the inside. The house takes advantage of the gentle slope of the grade towards the water by providing four levels of water view living spaces, including a walk-out lower level.
According to the architect, the umbrella shaped “King’s Shade” structure, along with it’s supporting pink granite base and adjacent stone wall, were carefully reconstructed to maintain their original iconic presence on the island. Along with the home’s five bedrooms, the interior spaces include several areas for “retreat” including a bunk room and recreation room for the kids and a home theater.

I haven’t seen these counter stools before, but I am loving them. I guess they’re custom… Aren’t they cool? They’re definitely very original!

With plenty of natural light, this kitchen feels bright and warm. I love the window treatment and the adorable flower vases by the window.

The living room is cozy and inviting. I especially like the built-in that opens to the dining room.

I wouldn’t mind spending a couple of weeks in this home… I am not sure if you feel like me, but I am more than ready for a summer vacation. I am feeling a little too tired lately… and overwhelming. There’s always something to do, to clean around the house, then as a mother, you have to be there for your children all the time (especially when you live far away from family like we do and you don’t have any extra help) and you need to be there for all the people you love… and you do ALL you can to never disappoint them. I am not complaining, I am just feeling tired – and now, for opening up, I am feeling a little guilty too… oh life! LOL
But, do you ever feel that you can never find time for yourself? That’s how I am feeling lately. I don’t remember when it was the last time I did my nails (please, send me to a spa, someone! LOL)! I know… but my point here is that I feel that I am not having time for myself anymore… you know, that five minutes you need to have every single day, just to be able to hear your own thoughts? Well, with all the noise around me, my voice is growing quieter and quieter and that’s simply not how I like to feel.
Perhaps, I will have to make some things to wait… maybe I should put some things aside and just do what my mind is asking me for, which is to have some quiet time by myself.
