How to Decorate Your Dining Room

One of the most neglected rooms in a house is a dining room. While a dining room is where you eat with your family, it can also become the place where you can host family games, have social meetings and arrange get together with friends and relatives. Therefore, it is important that you keep your dining room well maintained and decorated.

While it can be daunting to renovate the entire room, you can follow just a few tricks to spice up your dining room and make it a room that speak about style.

Here’s how to decorate your dining room:

Lighting It Up

Any room that lacks the lighting factor will look unattractive, so does a dining room. Lighting helps to set the mood right and makes people happy.

You should have lights that can be made to go dim or darker, according to your requirements. Besides using bulbs, a few candles won’t hurt and a fireplace in the room will act as icing on the cake. Natural lighting works too. When having meals in daylight, natural light will make everything look natural and fresher.

Next, decide on the shape of the light fixtures you want to install. Dining rooms have a dining table which may be round or square shaped. Choosing lighting fixtures that blends well with the shape of the dining table will make it look more alluring.

Dining Table

No dining room is complete without a lavish dining table. They come in a variety of sizes and even shapes today. You can choose from a diverse range of materials such as glass, wood, aluminum, plastic etc. However, choose one that complements the overall room and the other furniture pieces that are kept in the room.

The shape of the dining room also plays an important part when it comes to picking a dining table. You can have a spherical or a simple square shaped table, however, make sure that it’s not too big or too small and can easily accommodate your entire family.

Tablecloth

Dining tables without tablecloths look strange unless they have a fine calligraphy on it. However, most dining tables are simple and don’t have any prints or calligraphy on them. Therefore, getting a tablecloth will help in enhancing the ambience of the table and also aid in improving the overall look of the room.

Tablecloths come in many varieties. You can choose a color that blends well with the wall paint of the room and a design that looks beautiful.

Table Runner

Table runners are long pieces of cloths that are mostly placed at the center of the table that increase the visual appeal of the dining table. They can also be kept above table cloths but make sure that you choose different colors and designs when you want to decorate your table with both.

Choosing contrasting tablecloth and runner will help give a touch of creativity to your table and will contribute in making your dining room look lively.

Wall Art

A room with a wall art won’t hurt and there are a plethora of options to choose from. You can choose a painting that speaks to you or simply add farmhouse wall signs of your choice to make your dining room look complete.

Accessories

Other than all the above mentioned options, you can use accessories to decorate your dining room. These include cutlery, and even corkscrews, which can come handy.

Other accessories include old wine collection and don’t forget to add a comfy rug to complement the look.
