I saw another day on instagram someone mentioning about the year ending in a little more than two months. That shouldn’t have shocked me because I am aware we’re in October but the sound of “the year is ending in two months” does shocks me. Doesn’t it do the same to you?
Thanksgiving, Christmas, the holidays that come from now on are really the best ones in my opinion and, with the colder weather approaching, I like to transform my bright house into a cozier place to be. The decor is richer, the colors are deeper and rugs create warmth and softness in almost every room of my house. The furniture is often kept the same, but plush throws and pillows make them feel completely different from the summery months.
Here are my tips and ways to get your home ready for the holidays and for all of the guest that come by!
This has to come first on the list. No furniture or decor can help with the house if it’s dusty, cluttered or dirty. Do a big clean up with the whole family. Focus first on high-traffic, visible areas, just in case the surprise guests start appearing.

What are the holidays without an abundance of delicious food and treats? Start preparing food and snacks that are easy to freeze so you don’t feel overwhelmed when the big days such as Christmas approaches. Cookies are also an easy way to make your home get that welcoming feel and an amazing smell.

Where do you entertain your guests when they’re over? I have a formal living and dining room but I will be honest, I rarely use these rooms to entertain. When I have guests over I want them to experience us as we are (okay, almost!). I have them in my kitchen helping me cook or in our family room talking to the husband and the kids while I prepare the food. I love this casual feel when I have family and friends over and that’s why I try to keep these spaces extra comfortable with plenty of seating and beautiful decor to make them look as good as my more formal rooms.
Room paint color is “Benjamin Moore Classic Gray” at 75%. Benjamin Moore Classic Gray is a very light almost white color.

I am sure I wouldn’t have to mention this one, but besides having a sparkling clean bathroom for your guests, it’s important to have it ready for your guests. Make sure to organize the cabinets, bring extra toilet paper, new towels and toiletries. You can place the beautiful things on open shelves and cabinets or in a basket. Also, make sure to add a comfortable floor mat and each toilet should have a chic plunger by it. This might avoid an unnecessary embarrassment for your guests.

Having a guest bedroom is a luxury that not everyone can offer, but if you can, try to take good care of this space almost as much you would for your own bedroom. Bring new, crisp linens (preferably white), layer your bed with a soft duvet and a throw and two sets of pillows – one soft and the other firmer – so your guest can choose which one is more comfortable to them.
