Hi, my friends!
I hope everything is truly great with you.
This week was very special to me. Besides having my best friend close by, I also feel I have to share a good news with you. About a month ago, I mentioned here that my grandfather was on his last stages of cancer. There were times we all thought that it wouldn’t take long for him to go, even hours. This is when my mother left everything to go live with him. She took care of my grandfather day and night and she is still there as we speak. The miracle? My grandfather is getting stronger and much better. He is once again walking, eating, speaking, gaining weight and smiling when I talk to him. He is getting back to “normal”.
I am not sure what to expect and to be very honest, I don’t want to ask anything to God. All I do is thanking Him for each day that my grandfather is here with us, especially because I see that he is not suffering as much anymore. Every day is truly a miracle, nothing less than that.
I spoke to him a couple of days ago and he said he’s not giving up. He will turn 96 in October and he says that he wants to pass 100!
My grandfather has bone cancer. If you have any knowledge about this you know it’s one of the most painful kind of cancer anyone can have. Still, he’s not giving up. He’s fighting, he is eating even when he feels he can’t. He’s forcing himself to thrive and he is astonishing everyone, including doctors, for his improvement.
For me, I feel this is the most valuable lesson I can learn in this life. How can I ever complain again? How can I ever be lazy or not try to be better? How can I take this life for granted? Most importantly, how can I ever not fight for what I believe in?
We can fight the odds when we don’t believe in them. We can change the path when we have faith. We can continue going on when we don’t give up.
I am not saying he’s cured, I am saying that he is a lesson and his message is simple: “Don’t ever give up”!
