It’s been a while since I last shared one of the many stunning projects by Edward Deegan Architects and Interiors and I must confess that I was missing sharing their impeccable work around here. The good news is that today we will be seeing a kitchen renovation that was just completed by them and it perfectly shows how to mix white with White Oak cabinets.
If you’re looking for inspiration, make sure to continue reading to know more details about this kitchen renovation shared by interior design, Katy Evans:
“The Regency project was a large scale renovation involving an entire reconfiguration of the home’s first floor. The goal was to open the living spaces to one another and improve the functionality of specific areas to better serve the needs of a modern family. Walls were removed to connect the kitchen with the family room, a mudroom was added between the garage and the kitchen, and property views were maximized to bring the outside in. A mix of stained and painted materials were used throughout the interiors to echo the home’s modern Tudor exterior. The kitchen was designed to incorporate a timeless aesthetic with the addition of modern touches such as matte black hardware and dark backsplash tiles.” – Katy Evans for Edward Deegan Interiors.

I love the color of the stained white oak cabinets. I tried to emulate the color using white oak wood and the Minwax Weathered Grey stain and the color is no where near the color of the cabinets in the pictures on your blog. Can you please let me know if what exact brand of Minwax was used and what exact style of white oak was used. The weathered grey stain, brought out the dark streaks of the oak and the wood looks grey not a nice light brown/tan tone that is in the picture.
Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Hi Nicole,
I am so sorry that you didn’t get the same result. I am positive the stain color is correct, because I have received this information directly from the architects & designers for this project, Edward Deegan Architects and Interiors (@edwarddeeganarchitects). Having said that, it was definitely applied by the cabinet maker and I am not quite sure about their process.
I would suggest you contact the designers to see if they can share more details with you. Meanwhile,”Minwax Early American”, “Minwax Special Walnut” & “Minwax Provincial” are much warmer than “Minwax Weathered Gray” – As you have noticed, Weathered Gray does have a lot of “gray” hues.
I hope the suggestions above give you a better direction. Please, keep me posted.
