Happy new week, my dear friends! It’s great to share this newly-built Newport Beach, CA bayfront house with you guys. Here, the architect, Eric Aust Architect, (previously featured on Home Bunch here: California Modern Farmhouse Beach House), shares some insights:
“The client purchased the lot in order to build a custom home for himself and his two teenage children. His goal was to have a comfortable, modern beach house with traditional design aspects. The lot is small (30’x85’) but typical for the area. The major bonus of this lot in particular is that it included an additional large sand area between the lot and Newport Harbor. The design focused on an open concept with views out to the harbor. We used large multi-slide steel doors along the rear of the house in order to provide unobstructed views to Newport Harbor and the boats beyond. Finishes inside the house have a nautical, rustic feel without being kitschy. The house feels light and bright due to well placed windows, without feeling like you’re looking right into your neighbor’s homes. We were also able to include a small 3rd floor bonus room and roof deck that provide expansive views.”

The exterior of this home combines board and batten siding with painted white brick. Exterior paint color is Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White.

This kitchen is something I would not expect in a beach house in California, but it certainly has a lot of character! Notice that the hood carries the same reclaimed wood planks.

Kitchen Cabinetry: The kitchen combines Natural aged reclaimed wood wrapped on the island and range hood, with shaker style perimeter doors and drawer fronts painted in Sherwin Williams Anew Gray. The island features touch latch drawers in the toe kicks and touch latch hidden doors on each end of island to maximize storage.

Kitchen Countertop (perimeter & island): Lincoln Calacatta honed.
