It’s always wonderful to be back with a new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” tour for you all, and today this tour speaks close to my heart. Located in a beautiful city in the Greater Vancouver area, Dina’s home has character, soul and plenty of DIY projects that inspire.
Keep reading to know all details shared by this talented homeowner:
“I was so excited when Luciane, from the Home Bunch, reached out wanting to feature my home in her series “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”.
My name is Dina, I am a mid-50’s wife and mother of two, you can follow more of my home story on Instagram @dinasdigs. As a self- taught wood worker, DIY’er and forever thrift/vintage hunter, it is such an honour to be featured.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and then I will take you along for a tour of my home.
Our home was built in 2001 and my husband and I purchased it in 2005. We spent the first 10 years living in our home raising our two sons (now ages 25 and 22) and saving up to do a few large renovations. I have always had a passion for interior design and believe that your home should reflect the people who live in it.
Our two major renovations came in 2010 (back patio) and 2012 (kitchen) using our favourite trusted contractor (BB Builders). Watching these renovations really sparked my interest in DIY and especially woodworking. I had dreamed up so many project ideas to add charm and character to our home that I decided it was time to learn some new skills so that I could complete these jobs on my own. I jumped right in and started to learn and began crossing projects off my list while learning along the way, it’s never too late to learn a new skill.
My goal all along has been to create a home that is unique to our family by incorporating my DIY projects and by adding one of a kind thrifted, vintage, and antique treasures! I love to create, and my home provides endless opportunities to create and find moments of joy.
I want to give a big thank you to renowned photographer, Tracey Ayton, who did all the gorgeous photography for this feature. You can find more of her stunning work on Instagram @traceyaytonphotography!
Now for the tour of our 3500 sq ft, 4-bedroom home…”
“The front of our home is made up of stone, hardy board and a tile roof which are all original. We are due for a paint job… Give me all your colour suggestions! I gave our front door an update last summer with a new paint job and updated hardware.” – Dina of @dinasdigs
Dina, of @dinasdigs, prepared an amazing tour for us and I really hope you have a wonderful time seeing her beautiful home today!

“After battling with our front grass to grow for years we decided it was time to change the landscaping. I was inspired by a trip to Italy in 2019 and wanted to create my own Tuscan inspired garden so we removed the grass, added a stone pathway and sitting area. We landscaped using low maintenance perennials featuring lavender, alliums, boxwood, limelight hydrangeas and my prized olive tree.” – Dina of @dinasdigs
Chairs: Wood Foldable Chairs – similar – Others: here, here & here.
“When you enter our home, you are greeted with a staircase view that features a vintage pine dresser with the original porcelain knobs and the sweet vintage chair was a $10 thrift store find. There is also a peekaboo view of the gallery wall going up our stairway. I love that you are immediately greeted by so much character and charm when you enter our home, it’s a taste of what’s to come. The hydrangeas came from my garden, and I dried them for year-round beauty.” – Dina of @dinasdigs

“Our living room fireplace was easily updated at a minimal cost. I asked our contractor to add the moulding above the mantle (as I watched him install it I knew I could learn to do this myself!). After that was installed, I painted the slate tile surround and added a stained 2×10 piece of pine on top of the existing mantle. The DIY coffee table was one of my first furniture builds and I still love it!” – Dina of @dinasdigs

“Our dining room coffered ceiling was added by our contractor as it was the perfect spot for some extra detail. After that I added the board and batten on the walls myself to add another layer of detail. The iron shelf brackets were custom made and I added barnwood from a friend’s local farm property for the shelving to add more character rather than new lumber.” – Dina of @dinasdigs

“Like I mentioned our kitchen was renovated in 2012 as we wanted a light and bright space to accommodate our family and how we live. It was time to update the original IKEA kitchen too. My goal with this renovation was to choose timeless finishes so that it would stand the test of time as kitchen renovations are so pricey. I warmed up the space by adding lots of wood tones, vintage accessories, and my DIY plate rack!” – Dina of @dinasdigs

“Our master bathroom is our most recent renovation and boy did it need a gut job! The original space was very outdated. The new space is light, bright, and neutral and a much better use of space with the walk-in shower instead of the original sunken bathtub that we never used. I used to dread time spent in my master bathroom and now I savour it!” – Dina of @dinasdigs

It was originally a 10×10 ft wooden patio and when we renovated, we decided to triple the space by adding a stamped concrete patio that spans the width of our home. It encompasses a seating area under the pergola with a fireplace, a large eating area and an outdoor kitchen.” – Dina of @dinasdigs
