As stressful as it can be, moving also gives you a chance to make a fresh start in a new space. If you’re planning on moving soon you might want to search for one of those décor apps available on Google Play. Many of us work full-time and have a family to take care of and don’t have a lot of time to go hunting for unique design elements. If that’s your case, you might want to give the LikeThat Decor app a try, which has a companion website called LikeThatApps.
How it Works

The Like That Décor app lets you use your device’s camera to take photos of furniture, and other home furnishings, and then scan the app’s database for items just like that which are available online or through nearby retailers. You can take photos of the actual item, or of a photograph in a catalog, magazine, or even on your computer screen. You can also use a photo that’s already stored on your phone.
If you don’t have a photo on your device, the app also has a gallery with hundreds of household items that you can select and search for, or you can search by keywords like: “Kitchen Pendant Lighting.”
The website also has a function where you can copy and paste the URL of a webpage and crop an item on the page to find one like that somewhere else.
The Good
The best part about the Like That Décor app is that you don’t have to figure out how to describe what you’re looking for. Sure, something like “Kitchen Pendant Lighting” might return a very specific result but “Platform Bed” or “Curio Cabinet” could return such a wide variety of results that it could take forever to find what you’re looking for. You can try narrowing the search, but then you end up typing a lot of words to describe exactly what you’re looking for. But if you can take a photo and basically say “I want something like that,” that makes it much easier.
Also, depending on the angle and lighting in the photo, the app will even try to match the color and the texture. For example, I took a photo of a round ottoman and the app returned several results for ottomans of the same shape and the same color finish!
It’s also good that the app has a gallery so that you can search from several option without having to use your camera. The gallery is also helpful if you know you want something in that on corner, but you have absolutely no idea what.
What Needs Work
Camera angles and lighting are everything. Earlier I said that the app will try to match the color and texture of the item you photograph. That can be both a blessing and a curse, because sometimes it gets caught up on those things instead of the actual item. When taking photos, you need to make sure that you have good lighting and that you get the item at an angle that shows enough detail that the app can tell what it is.
Another issue is that the website has the option to upload a photo from your computer, however that function only seems to work on the main page. The option appears on other pages, but if you go through the motions of uploading a photo, it doesn’t really upload. This could be an issue with the browser, or it could be an issue with the site. The app doesn’t have that problem.
The Décor app has furniture, lighting and accessories, but it doesn’t have other décor elements like paint and wallpaper, which was kind of disappointing.
Finally, if you are concerned about security, Norton App Advisor considers the app medium to high risk because it accesses some information on your device – specifically your photos and camera. If you are concerned about security, consider installing the software temporarily and then removing it when you have finished using it. It’s also a good idea to have some kind of security software installed on your device.
All-in-all, I was happy with the Like That Décor app because it let me do some window shopping without actually having to make the time to shop. I just wish it had options for things like paint and wallpaper, and that the website operated as smoothly as the app.
