If you really want to buy yourself a more fulfilling life, it’s not how much money you earn that matters, but how you spend it. That also goes for the house you choose to live in. It’s not about its size but what you make of it.
Money wasn’t really a problem for this growing family and they knew what they wanted, but finding the perfect property wasn’t an easy task, even when looking in the sought-after Hamptons. At first, the couple wanted a big, open house, but they couldn’t find something that really spoke to them. Everything changed when they entered this classic Hamptons shingle cottage and fell in love with its architectural details and proximately to the beach.
The wife, Jenny Wolf, a Manhattan-based interior designer, knew she could transform this dark farmhouse from the 19th century into her dream getaway. She renovated the shingle cottage with approachable and kid-friendly interiors that carry a very relaxing and neutral color palette. The result is a place where you can go to at the end of the day and feel comfortable; and isn’t it the best result we can achieve in a house?
Nothing feels more cottage-y than a mint green front door. The paint color is Mermaid Green by Benjamin Moore.
To make the cottage feel bigger without actually having to add to it, the designer got rid of the attic, which allowed 6 feet more of vertical space and exposed vaulted ceilings. They also exposed the wooden beams on the first floor to add some more room and a touch of the old farmhouse it once was.
This neutral foyer is decorated with a large seagrass basket tucked under a wood sawhorse table, topped with glass lamp, framed sea fan and natural plants.

The interior designer brightened the walls with white paint from Benjamin Moore and used a calming pale green, almost gray, on the floors.
The living room features rustic plank ceiling, a beautiful linen tufted sectional with matching bolster pillows, vintage burlap sack pillows and a pair of vintage burlap cube ottomans atop a jute rug. This is a very neutral and natural look that works beautiful within this space.
Living Room Sofa: Lee Industries.
This super cute retro kitchen features vaulted ceiling, black vintage barn pendants, turquoise bistro barstools and a kitchen chalkboard. The white shaker kitchen cabinets are paired with white marble countertops, white subway tiled backsplash and an adorable blue Smeg Refrigerator.
Kitchen Lighting: Barn Light Electric.
Is this space a step forward your comfort zone? It was for the designer as well, but she wanted to have fun while designing this dining nook. Here, she combined Tolix metal chairs, vintage lantern and a modern Knoll table with a jute rug that gives a beach feeling. Very unique!
Dining Room Lighting: ABC Carpet & Home.
Dining Room Rug: West Elm.
The staircase was accentuated with stencil painted numbers.

Now this home speaks to me – the interiors are just my cup of tea – beautiful white woodwork, and calming neutral tones in the furniture and rugs, with the odd splash of pale blue 🙂
Love the white walls — which Benjamin Moore white are they?
I would love to find that exact wood entry sawhorse table! I found many online but want that exact one! Can you please guide me as to which brand it is?
Hi Sara,
I just sent you an email. I don’t have the source for this table. Please try to contact the designer directly for more details.
Thank you.
