Being an interior designer I have found myself sitting on my couch watching hours of shows by Sarah Richardson. In fact, I should say that Sarah Richardson has been one of the most influential designers in my life. I have always felt inspired by her and her team and this one is no different.
When an old lake cottage became available on the market where one of the homeowners used to spend his childhood at, the couple couldn’t resist buying it. But instead of renovating the old cottage, the new homeowners decided to build their dream cottage from the ground up. Top help them, they asked for Sarah Richardson’s decorating expertise.
The designer promptly enlisted her senior designers, Natalie Hodgins and Kate Stuart, to design this beautiful coastal cottage on Lake Erie. The result is a cottage that embraces coastal decor, mixed with vintage pieces in a very summery environment.
Expect to fall in love…
Sarah Richardson’s Coastal Cottage
This open and airy living room features unadorned windows and transoms to maximize natural light. A 3-foot by 3-foot iron chandelier measures up to the space’s large dimensions while a summery color palette seems to invite you in.
Dining Room
What I always love about Sarah Richardson’s designs is the fact that she never complicate things. A clean yet warm design is always your best bet! This dining room, for example, embraces nature and the lake views in a very serene color scheme. Warmth comes from the stunning reclaimed plank floors.
Kitchen
There’s nothing lacking in this white country kitchen, including character! The designer mixed once again new and old with a classic twist! The reclaimed plank floors add warmth while the painted ceiling brings some unexpected color. Yes, we’re forgoing the traditional blue ceiling to a soft shade of green! Isn’t it interesting?
Corbels
The designer added 100-year-old antique corbels (from a Victorian front porch) to the open shelves in the kitchen. Recycling never looked so good!
Breakfast Nook
I quite often recommend my clients to use comfortable chairs in breakfast rooms. I love the feeling of comfort that always invites you to stay a little longer to enjoy your meals and your time with your family. Comfort and family life are fundamental in any of my designs.
The fabric on the wing chairs is by Lee Jofa.
Furniture
Would you be tempted to paint this pine spindle dresser? For the designer, this piece adds to the existent color palette and complements the hardwood flooring. I couldn’t agree more!
Powder Room
Sarah Richardson does it again! The designer loves bird wallpapers and this one is perfect for this bathroom. Also, notice the antique dresser being transformed into a bathroom vanity. Stunning!
Guest Bedroom
You should always be creative when designing your home and that, in fact, can save you lots of money! When not finding the right side table for this guest bedroom, the designer opted for a tea cart instead. A coat of fresh paint makes the piece feel simply perfect for this room.
Turquoise & Green
Everything is inspiring in this turquoise and green girls’ bedroom, from the pair of turquoise Jenny Lind Beds to the hung quilt. Isn’t it an adorable idea?
Boys’ Bedroom
Gray and red always look great together! Take a look at this bedroom and soon you’ll see. In fact, take a good look at this bedroom… did you notice the beds aren’t an exact match? Similarity is reinforced with glossy red paint. Vintage tennis rackets are used as mirrors while a Dash & Albert plaid rug anchors the room.
Sarah Richardson’s Bird Wallpaper
Sarah Richardson became even more popular when she used this bird wallpaper in a bathroom on her “Sarah’s House” show. Do you guys remember that? In case you’re wondering about the name of the wallpaper, take note; the wallpaper is F Schumacher Wallpaper. Pattern: A-Twitter.

Hi Luciane, As I was relaxing with pinterest and looking through some home décor I came across a familar picture, so I clicked on it. And it led to you.
This is an amazing house that my husband built and I have spent time walking through, studying every inch of Sarah Richardson’s designs. She is so talented. I had to send you a quick note since we have similar tastes. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Jill!
It’s so wonderful to hear this! I adore Sarah’s work and I am happy to know your husband was the builder for this home. Do you mind sharing his name/website? I would love to link it to him as well.
Thank you!
Luciane
Any hints how I might locate a product source list for this house. Specifically the rug in the dining room?
