This ski cabin with rustic, barn inspired interiors is full of innovative ideas in design.
Located in Sugar Bowl, Lake Tahoe, CA and architecturally designed by Robert Kelly Architects & Designs, and interiors by Sally Ward, this eco-friendly winter wonderland has an old world charm that is often found in vintage and industrial pieces.
This is a place that inspires for its originality and natural beauty. I hope you you enjoy seeing it as much as I did.
Ski Cabin Design with Rustic Interiors
This is a new house. The concept was that it should look like it was there before the ski resort was built.
What about that chimney cap?
Rustic Kitchen Design
This kitchen is so original and pretty! I love its French-country flair…
Sink and faucet are vintage pieces found on Craig list. Yes, really!
Kitchen Countertop
This is a large kitchen but it carries a practical layout. It feels nice and open, functional but friendly. Open cabinets are great when there are a lot of guests. There are two dishwashers, two refrigerators, and a 5′ long range.
Countertop is slate stone from “American Slate”. Color is “tidal storm”.
The industrial pendants above island are vintage.
Kitchen cabinets are made of reclaimed wood from “Carlsons Barnwood or Black’s reclaimed wood.
Rustic Barn-Inspired Interiors
This is a practical area, perfect for small errands.
Industrial stool is from e-bay. Countertop is slate.
Dining Room
The dining room is perfect for this cabin… it feels casual and very welcoming.
Light fixtures are antiques. The best way to look is searching on Google for “vintage industrial lighting”. They are in the $400-$1200 range for each.
Wall Paint Color: Walls are integral plaster.
Vintage Sign
I love vintage signs. Aren’t they fun?!
Note the baseboards… they’re also made of reclaimed wood.
Living Room
I honestly never care about having animals hung on walls… but, regardless of that, I think this living room feels really cozy and inviting.
According to the architect, this fireplace is made of stone over concrete block. This kind of fireplace can easily cost around $30-40k.
Chair
I am not sure about leaving the doors open, but I would love to be there with a mug of hot chocolate, just enjoying the beautiful view.
Reclaimed Wood
The stunning reclaimed wood comes from “Carlson’s Barnwood” or “Black’s Reclaimed Wood”.
Bunk Room
Wouldn’t be fun to sleep here? I love these rustic bunk beds.
Each bed has a light.
Kids’ Bathroom
This rustic kids bedroom is perfectly design. The contractor carved this large timber to fit the sink. He did it by hand.
Sink is a “Kohler Brockway” — they’re perfect for kids bathroom or laundry rooms/mudrooms.
Stools are from e-bay.
Girl’s Bunk Room
This is the girls’ bunk room… isn’t it adorable?
Bedroom
A beautiful color scheme is found in the master bedroom.
Rustic Bathroom
A rustic bathroom that feels feminine? Who knew it could be possible?!
Did you notice the door knobs on the left? Stunning!
The tub is from waterworks.
Sink
Sink (unfortunately no longer available) is a Kohler K-5980 Sutton.
I am loving the sink curtains found in this cabin. The rods are 1/2″ galvanized pipe from the local hardware store.
Guest Bedroom
The wood beam ceiling in this bedroom mimics the structure of the house, gambrel barn.
Warm Bedroom Decor
This guest bedroom has radiant heat floors. Toasty!
Nice colors are found here.
Kids’ Study Ideas
What a dreamy study! Full of charm and individual space.
The architect didn’t use recessed lights in the cabin. Here, he used landscape lights. Very creative!
Mudroom Storage
This is actually how the house looks in operation. Organization and proper storage can make our lives a little easier! 🙂
Cabin Style Mudroom
Now, imagine having a mudroom like this! Don’t you love the bench?
Flooring is antique French limestone.
Celebrating Winter
A beautiful family enjoying their dreamy cabin.
The deck has a snowmelt system. No shoveling!
Trim Paint Color: “Benjamin Moore 2003-10 Million Dollar Red”.

Boy could I use that snow melt deck! That mud room is terrific.
I believe I pinned them all! So glad you got that pin symbol up in the corner now~
Que espetáculo de casa! Adorei tudo! Gostaria muito de estar em um local assim agora e poder desfrutar das delicias do inverno, já que aqui está um calor insuportável.

Wow – never seen a place like that before – it’s truly rustic and original, but cute too! Love it all as it’s something completely different to where I live 🙂
Another winner……just beautiful!
Waaaooo it’s amazing house!! I love it. So cute
have a good day my sweet
Hi…love this home. Every detail is incredible. The contractor and designer worked well together creating this home. I still. Can’t believe that kitchen sink was found on Craigslist!
Question about the chair – ninth picture…by the open door. Is that called a spool chair? Would love to find one. Can you help me with the name if this chair?
Thanks,
Linda
Hi Linda.
Thank you for your comment! I also love this cabin. Beautifully designed!
You’re right, the chair is a spool chair. You can find similar chairs in many different places. I recommend you to “Google” it and compare prices this way. “Z Gallery” seems to have the best price at this moment. 🙂
Regards,
Luciane
Now that’s a cabin I think of as the ideal skiing accommodations. Who wouldn’t love staying there? The detailed accessories fit so perfectly and of course I love the wood beam ceilings.
Awesome!
Elizabeth
I love the kitchen! Where did you get the sink?
