It’s no secret I absolutely love the impeccable work of Lisa Furey of Lisa Furey Interiors. She’s been featured on Home Bunch many times and it’s such an honor for me to be sharing her personal South Carolina cottage. Here, the designer shares all of the details on how she recently renovated this Lowcountry-style home:
“We LOVE this cottage (meaning me – and my husband, Jim Colton). We waited for and visited this home for six years, until financially it was in reach.( The lot was subdivided and we were able to afford the home – on less land.) The architecture is classic and uncomplicated. Round brick pillars, inspired by a nearby plantation, a slate roof and Savannah gray brick combine to give the home a sense of solidity. Wide porches provide comfortable space to entertain and enjoy the outdoors and views of the 18th green, distant islands and the Port Royal Sound on one side and Old Tabby Ponds on the other.
The floor plan is inviting. A foyer leads to the living room featuring a raised hearth brick fireplace on the north end of the home and a distinctive staircase which separates the living and dining rooms. The dining room features a second brick fireplace and built-in wine storage racks and adjoins a splendidly equipped kitchen. Off the living room is a room with a wet bar currently in use as a den. Adjacent to it is a full bath which allows the den to become an additional bedroom when needed. The home’s second floor contains a master bedroom suite with a beautifully appointed marble bathroom and dressing room, a comfortable guest room with bath, and conveniently located laundry room.
Originally designed as a residence, the home served initially as the Spring Island Club’s Golf House until the present facility was constructed. Those who recall the early days at Spring Island have fond memories of sitting on the porch, recounting the day’s events and enjoying the stunning views. We live that way today!”
