How far would you go to watch a movie? How about Thailand? This floating movie-theater is a temporary auditorium-raft designed by architect Ole Scheeren in collaboration with the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Foundationset based in the private island of Yao Noi in Andaman Sea, Thailand.
The movie theatre is a congregation of rafts, dubbed as Archipelago Cinema in which a screen was nestled in front of the limestone protrusions of the Andaman. The architect adopted local techniques to develop this floating cinema; he used rafts used by local fishermen to farm lobsters, and he tied the wooden frames by rubber straps to create blocks that were wrapped in mosquito nets.
Further, all recycled woods and materials were used, and the rafts have reusable modularity, as everything will be given back to the local community after the screening. The whole event space construction was flexible and can be towed anywhere.
The architect describes the place: “When we first arrived at the lagoon, the water was calm. Nothing like the choppy boat ride that took us here. There was a beach, and a backdrop of a huge wall of rocks. Two smaller rocks stood like teeth out of the water, forming a porous enclosure, inscribing an almost circular space.”
What do you think? Would it be Cool or Fool to watch a movie in a private island?

What do you think of the floating theatre? Would you like to experience it or do you think it’s a little too strange to watch a movie floating on the water? I can’t wait to know what you think of this one!
Oh, my! Can you believe it’s Friday! I’m so excited for this weekend. I feel so good during summer, it seems that the sunshine makes me feel more awake, healthier and with more energy. That’s why I’ve been cooking a lot during this week, and even though I enjoy it, I feel like taking a break and trying some new restaurants. My husband and I are huge fans of exploring new places and we teach the kids to try different cuisines. They usually love trying new places, and it’s always great to get to know about other cultures too.
I think we have to be more adventurous in this life and learn as much as we can.
Isn’t life too short to stay still? Move, shake a little and feel alive. Try something new during this weekend! ๐
